PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kuroda Atsushii (ranked 479 p4p, 53 weight class) and Garrick Head (ranked 752 p4p, 79 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

KOMBAT KLOTHING


Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kuroda Atsushii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Garrick Head!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head throws a low kick but Atsushii moves out of range easily.
Atsushii with a hook.
Atsushii looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Head cracks a nice hook into Atsushii's ribs.

Atsushii rushes Head and presses him up against the cage.
Head has a couple of punches blocked by Atsushii.
Head lands a nice uppercut.

Head pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Atsushii tries to close the distance and clinch up but Head swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Atsushii is looking to clinch but Head is avoiding it.
Atsushii cracks a nice hook into Head's ribs.

Atsushii clinches.

Head breaks from the clinch.

Atsushii pushes Head up against the cage in a clinch.
Head wants to break the clinch but can't.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Atsushii steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Head.
Atsushii appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Head lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Atsushii takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Atsushii with a jab.
Head dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Atsushii blocks a low kick nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Atsushii drops down looking for a counter takedown but Head sprawls and moves away.
Head is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Atsushii.
Atsushii uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Head.
Atsushii changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Head throws a leg kick that is checked
and Atsushii counters with a nice low kick that buckles Head's knee momentarily.
Head looks to land a left hand but Atsushii moved out of range nicely.
Atsushii is looking to counter punch.
Head looks to land a right hand but Atsushii moved out of range.
Atsushii closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Head tests Atsushii's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Atsushii wants to clinch
and Head connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Atsushii tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Head counters with a nice uppercut.
Head displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Atsushii throws out the jab.

Atsushii fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Head, pushing him back against the cage.
Head tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Atsushii's elbow.
Nice body punch from Head.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Atsushii.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Head breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Head gets cracked there but stands up to it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Head throws a nice inside leg kick.
Atsushii tries to close the distance and clinch up but Head swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Atsushii moves into the clinch successfully.
Atsushii tries to score a body lock takedown but Head shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Atsushii misses with a punch to the body.
Head has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A right hand to the body from Atsushii.
Head is pressed up against the cage. Atsushii has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Head down to the mat. Head avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Head lands with a nice body kick.
Atsushii fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Head has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Atsushii fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Head.
Head lands a nice looking kick to the body. Atsushii takes a step back to recover.
Head checks a low kick from Atsushii.
Head swats away the attempt to clinch by Atsushii.
Head scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Head missing with a left hand there. Atsushii was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Head throws a jab but it's blocked by Atsushii.

Atsushii forces Head back against the cage and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Atsushii fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Head blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Atsushii doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Atsushii lands a shoulder strike.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Head looks to land a body kick but Atsushii moved away.
Head takes a swing at Atsushii's ribcage but misses.
It looked like Atsushii wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Atsushii changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Head tries to avoid it but Atsushii manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Head to the ground. Head escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kuroda Atsushii. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Atsushii bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A nice inside leg kick there by Head. That's going to slow Atsushii down.
A jab lands there for Head.
Head connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Garrick Head is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jab, jab by Atsushii - just one landing.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Head blocks a low kick nicely.
No luck for Atsushii with that takedown attempt.
Head swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Atsushii throws a low kick but Head moves out of range easily.
Head scores with a kick to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Atsushii dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Head tries a low kick but Atsushii avoids it.
Head tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Atsushii was well out of range. Poor timing from Head.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Head, as that shot connected.
Head throws a body kick that misses.
Head connects with a jab.
Atsushii throws a body punch but Head moves out of range.
Atsushii keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Atsushii.
Atsushii cracks Head with a good jab.
Atsushii tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Head was well out of range. Poor timing from Atsushii.
Atsushii moves away from the strike by Head.
Atsushii scores with a leg kick.
Head ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Atsushii moves away.
Head looks to throw the jab but Atsushii is out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Head walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Head swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Atsushii attempts a counter takedown but Head avoids it well and moves away.
Atsushii avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Atsushii is looking to clinch but Head is avoiding it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garrick Head dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Atsushii is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Head fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Atsushii manages to avoid it.
Atsushii misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Head.
Head tries a quick counter leg kick but Atsushii is wise to it.
Atsushii tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Head defends well and Atsushii ends up having to push Head into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Head tests Atsushii's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Head. Atsushii does a little dance to reset his feet.
Head works the jab nicely.


Atsushii is rocked!
Atsushii takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Oh Atsushii is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Head circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Atsushii to the canvas! Atsushii doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Head keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Garrick Head!
Garrick Head decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
