PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trenton Sloan (ranked 25111 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Bijlsma (ranked 5448 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Bijlsma told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Trenton Sloan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Johnny Bijlsma!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Daniel Blasius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Bijlsma or perhaps it was just good defense by Sloan, which made it look bad.

Bijlsma moves into range and clinches up with Sloan.
Sloan has Bijlsma pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bijlsma manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Sloan stalling in the clinch but Bijlsma improves position.
Sloan tries to break free but Bijlsma pushes him back against the cage.

Sloan pulls guard effortlessly.
Sloan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bijlsma's guard.

Sloan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sloan landing some decent shots from guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloan being controlled here momentarily.
Sloan won't allow Bijlsma to get back to his feet.

Bijlsma keeping moving, preventing Sloan from controlling successfully.
Sloan tries to stand but Bijlsma is controlling from the bottom.
Sloan wants to control from the top but Bijlsma keeps moving.
Sloan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bijlsma is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sloan trying to control the position from guard on top but Bijlsma is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bijlsma working for a triangle but Sloan defends it easily.
Sloan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bijlsma has Sloan pulled in close to control his posture.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bijlsma is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bijlsma is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sloan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bijlsma is trying to keep Sloan in close.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sloan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Sloan pushes Bijlsma up against the cage in a clinch.
Sloan prevents the takedown attempt.
Sloan stops a takedown attempt from Bijlsma.
Trenton Sloan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Bijlsma.

Sloan manages to pull guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bijlsma pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sloan is keeping the position for now.

Sloan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bijlsma gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sloan wants to stand but Bijlsma is controlling the position.
Sloan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Bijlsma tries to free his leg and advance position but Sloan is retaining full guard.
Sloan wants to get back to his feet but Bijlsma is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Bijlsma got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sloan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bijlsma has managed to get both his arms back between Sloan's legs - danger averted.

Sloan looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bijlsma trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sloan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sloan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Sloan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bijlsma can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sloan wants to stand up but Bijlsma is controlling him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sloan looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bijlsma passes into side control.

Bijlsma decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trenton Sloan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sloan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bijlsma.
Sloan swats away the attempt to clinch by Bijlsma.
Bijlsma wants to clinch up but Sloan keeps it at a distance.
Sloan throws a sloppy head kick and Bijlsma moves out of range easily.
Sloan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bijlsma tries to counter with a clinch but Sloan shakes him off and moves away.
Bijlsma swats away the attempt to clinch by Sloan.

Bijlsma changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sloan tries to avoid it but Bijlsma manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sloan to the ground. Sloan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sloan misses with a double jab.

Bijlsma drives through and clinches with Sloan against the cage.

Bijlsma is struggling to control the position.
Sloan has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Bijlsma prevents a takedown attempt there.

Bijlsma jumps guard and drags Sloan to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Sloan stands up over Bijlsma, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sloan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bijlsma looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sloan is one step ahead there.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sloan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sloan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Bijlsma is keeping the position for now.
Sloan lands a couple of digs.

Bijlsma manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sloan manages to get himself to full guard.

Sloan wants to stand up but Bijlsma is controlling him.
Bijlsma wants to stand but Sloan is controlling his posture from full guard.

Sloan has his feet on Bijlsma's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Sloan throws a right hand that Bijlsma ducks under and follows up with a left that Bijlsma also avoids with ease.
Sloan tries a head kick but it misses.
Bijlsma tries to clinch but Sloan moves out of range.
Trenton Sloan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A head kick by Bijlsma misses

and Sloan counters with a takedown into side control.
Sloan in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Bijlsma is working to avoid the ground and pound but Sloan connects with a decent elbow.
Sloan scores with punches from side control.
Sloan lands a few punches from side control.

Sloan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bijlsma is trying to control Sloan's posture but Sloan avoids it.

Sloan in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Bijlsma is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
