Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shannon White!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with the takedown.
Smith shoots in and drives through. White sprawls well.
White with the counter takedown but Smith avoids it easily.

White scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

White thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith is looking to regain half guard here but White keeps moving and retains side control.
White wants to stand but Smith is controlling his arm.
Smith tries to bench press White off him but White keeps the position.
Smith has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith is trying to improve his position.

White working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smith stops White from passing to mount.

Smith might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
White trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it.

Smith is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but White pulls his head out easily.
Smith slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
White pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. White doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. White manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
White sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard.
Smith tries to roll over but White keeps him under control.

Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

White looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

White works his way into side control.

White goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smith rolls with the submission and now he's on top in White's guard! Nice work there by Smith!

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and White has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between White's legs - danger averted.
Smith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Smith lying in White's guard like a wet fish here, stalling away. White decides he's had enough of all that nonsense - he escapes his hips and locks up an armbar! Wow, that was slick! Smith taps! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Shannon White!
