Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Edmundo Grimes (ranked 6616 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Paul (ranked 3766 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edmundo Grimes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joseph Paul!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul lands a body shot.
Paul throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Paul will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Grimes seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Paul misses with a double jab.
Grimes is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Paul.
Paul connects with a right hand. Grimes shakes it off.


It looks like Edmundo Grimes has been cut.
Paul is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Grimes.
Paul throws an overhand right that lands on Grimes's shoulder, as Grimes tries to avoid the shot.
Paul tries to score with a low kick but Grimes moves his leg out of the way.
Paul misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grimes shoots in but no luck this time.
Paul is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Paul throws a left and a right that both miss

so Grimes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Paul looking to hit a scissor sweep but Grimes is one step ahead there.
Grimes controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Paul looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Paul tries to strike from the bottom.
Paul is wriggling around but Grimes manages to pass to half guard.
Grimes prevents Paul from improving his position.

Grimes stands up and beckons Paul to join him on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Paul misses with a leg kick

so Grimes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Paul is looking to stand back up but Grimes counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Paul.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.


Grimes stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Paul to get to his feet.
Grimes checks a leg kick.
Paul misses with a double jab

and Grimes counters with a shoot takedown. Paul fights it but they end up in guard.
Paul wants to get back to his feet but Grimes passes into half guard.

Paul tries to get to full guard but Grimes has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grimes lands strikes from half guard.
Paul throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Paul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Grimes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Grimes is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Grimes is working for a submission of some sort.
Paul has hold of Grimes's hands but Grimes slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Grimes decides to return to a standing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed right hand from Paul misses the target.
Paul missing with a left hand there. Grimes was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A right-left combo lands from Paul.
Paul throws a hook to the side of Grimes's head but Grimes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Paul throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Grimes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Grimes tries to counter by clinching up but Paul breaks away and moves out of range.

Grimes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Paul quickly recovers to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Grimes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Paul trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Grimes manages to pass to mount!
Grimes in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Edmundo Grimes will probably get the nod.

Paul scores with a hook.
A telegraphed right hand from Paul misses the target.
An attempted straight right counter from Grimes misses the target.
Paul tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grimes was well out of range. Poor timing from Paul.
Grimes avoids the body shot from Paul.
Grimes keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Paul.
Paul throws a right and a left that both miss.
Grimes jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
The fight stays on the outside here - Paul looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Paul tried to score with a low kick but Grimes checks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grimes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Grimes decides to stand up, so the ref orders Paul to his feet.
Joseph Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paul feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Grimes's calf.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grimes slips a jab and a cross from Paul.
Paul lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Grimes circles away quickly and effectively.
Paul swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Grimes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Grimes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Paul manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Grimes has Paul in his guard.

Grimes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Grimes is looking to cinch up a triangle. Paul throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Grimes's body to avoid the submission. Grimes has instead reached around Paul's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Grimes arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Edmundo Grimes!
