The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallone avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Freitas has a takedown stuffed.
Mallone scores with a three punch combo!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Freitas.

Freitas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mallone to the mat! Mallone manages to get full guard.
Freitas prevents Mallone from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Freitas postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Freitas gets to his feet - Mallone follows without any prompting.

and Mallone counters with a three punch combo that has Freitas backing up. Freitas nods at Mallone to acknowledge the strikes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Freitas clinches up with Mallone and pushes him back against the cage.

Freitas jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mallone walks away with a smile on his face. Freitas gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mallone feints a jab promting Freitas to slip. Mallone then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Freitas slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Freitas shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Freitas not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Freitas perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Freitas decides to stand and escape the position.
Mallone lands an overhand right.
Mallone lands with a good body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Freitas wants to clinch but Mallone slips to the side
and Mallone counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Mallone misses with a double jab

and Freitas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mallone tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Freitas manages to move to mount!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Freitas is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Mallone is surviving well by controlling Freitas's body position as best he can.
Freitas lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Mallone is rocked!

Mallone has left one of his arms exposed and Freitas doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Mallone screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
