Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Vasques (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chev Chelios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chelios shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vasques as he jumps to the side.
Vasques looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chelios is fending him off so far but Vasques persists. Nope, Chelios circles away and we're back to standing.

and Vasques counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chelios!
The referee warns Chelios that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Chelios defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Vasques.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Vasques moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Chelios has worked his arm free - good work by Chelios!
Chelios is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Vasques off and has taken his back!
Vasques manages to reverse the position and now he's in Chelios's guard. Nice work there by Vasques.

Chelios throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasques is looking for a sweep. Chelios is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Chelios is looking to take a break and control but Vasques is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Chelios throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Vasques tries to roll over but Chelios keeps him under control.
Chelios wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vasques keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chelios pushes Vasques off looking to stand but Vasques dives back in and keeps control.

Vasques is looking for a kimura but Chelios is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vasques to get the leverage.

Vasques would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Chelios is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Chelios looking to hit a scissor sweep but Vasques is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vasques tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chelios swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chelios lands with a nice body kick.

and Vasques counters with a single leg into guard. Chelios didn't expect that.
