PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vape Diaz (ranked 1276 p4p, 155 weight class) and Joey Karate (ranked 1286 p4p, 156 weight class). Karate has chosen Shot Em' as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vape Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Karate!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karate throws a big shot that misses.
Diaz avoids the body shot from Karate.

Karate forces Diaz back against the cage and clinches.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Karate scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Diaz scores with a decent looking hook.
Karate ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Diaz misses with an uppercut.
Diaz lunges at Karate with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Karate's hand.
Diaz connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Karate tries to clinch but Diaz moves out of range.
Karate tries to clinch there but Diaz circles away.
Karate takes a swing at Diaz's ribcage but misses.
Karate tries to clinch up.
Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Karate slips the punch.
Karate drops his hands momentarily and Diaz takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Karate takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Karate slips under a jab.
Karate uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Diaz.
Diaz lands a jab to the head.
It looks like Diaz has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Karate takes a swing at Diaz's ribcage but misses.
Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Karate.
Joey Karate is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Karate looks to score with a jab to the body but Diaz is just out of range.

Karate appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Karate tries to clinch

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Karate works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Diaz passes into half guard.
Karate is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Diaz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karate keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz.
Karate is trying to get back to full guard.

Diaz seems to be looking for submissions.
Karate keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Diaz winds up and cracks Karate with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Diaz wants to work for an arm triangle but Karate is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Diaz moves into full mount! Karate won't be happy about that!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz looking to control but Karate is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Karate is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Karate is bucking up trying to escape but Diaz cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Karate tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Diaz is working for a guillotine from mount but Karate frees his head quite easily.
Karate wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.
Karate really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Diaz has hold of Karate's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Karate manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Diaz prevents Karate from getting the reversal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diaz working for a guillotine from mount but Karate is in no mood to give up.
Diaz in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Diaz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Karate defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.
Karate is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Diaz wants to control the pace but Karate is squirming around nicely.
Diaz wants to take Karate's back but he can't do it this time.
Karate sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vape Diaz dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Karate on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Diaz ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Karate scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Karate throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Diaz throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Karate sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Karate throws a lazy right hand but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Joey Karate seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Karate slips the punch.
A swing and a miss from Diaz.
Diaz misses with a wild body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Karate not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Diaz pushes down on Karate's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karate is staying active underneath Diaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Diaz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Karate really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Karate trying to control but Diaz postures up.
Karate tries to roll over but Diaz keeps him under control.
Vape Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Karate is trying to stand back up but Diaz is controlling him

Diaz seems to be working for a kimura but Karate defends the submission attempt.
Diaz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Diaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Karate wants to get back to full guard.

Diaz is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Karate is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vape Diaz!
Vape Diaz gave a mention to Freebok (85% Laundry) in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
