PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Morgan Oneal (ranked 25367 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Baker (ranked 5322 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Morgan Oneal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Baker!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Baker finds it's target.


It looks like Morgan Oneal has been cut.

Oneal gets tackled into the cage by Baker. Baker maintains the clinch.
Baker is struggling to control the position.
Oneal is trying to break the clinch but Baker is controlling him.
Oneal could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Baker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Oneal walks away with a smile on his face. Baker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Baker takes the fight into the clinch.

Oneal has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Baker regains guard immediately.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Baker manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Oneal tightens his grip and picks Baker up, before dumping him to the ground. Baker manages to land in guard.

Baker scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Baker gets a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Oneal breaks the clinch.
Baker misses with a takedown attempt - Oneal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A punch lands to the side of Baker 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Baker throws a low kick but Oneal moves out of range easily.

and Oneal counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Morgan Oneal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alan Baker.

Baker darts in and clinches Oneal up against the cage.

Baker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Oneal as he avoids it easily.
Oneal is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Baker.
Alan Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker shoots for a takedown but Oneal saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Baker forces Oneal back against the cage and clinches.

Oneal gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oneal scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Oneal landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Oneal connects with a nice short shot to Baker's temple.
Baker is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Oneal's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Oneal's back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baker is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
You can see the frustration on Oneal's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Baker looking to break Oneal's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Oneal remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Baker will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Oneal defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Baker tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Baker is pressed up against the cage. Oneal has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Baker down to the mat. Baker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baker is trying to break the clinch but Oneal has him pressed against the cage.

Oneal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Baker moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Oneal throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Baker was covering up waiting for the punch and Oneal finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Baker throws his legs up looking for a submission but Oneal uses it to pass to side control.
Oneal works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Baker tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Baker takes a kick to the side of the head.

Oneal closes the distance and pushes Baker back into the cage.

Oneal breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Baker takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Baker tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Oneal presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Oneal cracks Baker with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Baker is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Baker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Oneal haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Oneal is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Baker pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Oneal's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Baker shoots in looking for a takedown but Oneal manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Baker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Baker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Oneal circles away.
Oneal seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oneal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Baker is looking to stand up but Oneal won't let him.

Baker tries to keep at a distance but Oneal has taken the fight into the clinch.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Morgan Oneal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Baker tries to stand but can't do so whilst Oneal controls his leg.

Oneal is staying active underneath Baker, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Oneal is looking to improve his position.
Oneal is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Baker can do to turn this around?

Oneal wants to improve his position but Baker is controlling well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Oneal works his way to full guard. Good work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Oneal closes the distance and clinches up with Baker, looking for a takedown. Oneal pushes Baker against the cage but Baker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Baker is trying to counter with his kicks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Oneal darts in and clinches Baker up against the cage.

Oneal gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Baker regains guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Morgan Oneal showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Oneal has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
