PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Berkman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Nicolosi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nicolosi has chosen Step Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Berkman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mauricio Nicolosi!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nicolosi tries a head kick but it misses.
Berkman tries to land a leg kick but Nicolosi saw it coming and moves away.
Nicolosi looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Nicolosi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Berkman.
Berkman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Berkman pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Nicolosi slips a straight right by Berkman.
Nicolosi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Berkman.
Carlos Berkman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nicolosi throws a sloppy head kick and Berkman moves out of range easily.
Nicolosi tries a head kick but it misses.
Berkman takes a swing at Nicolosi's ribcage but misses.
Berkman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nicolosi.
Nicolosi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Berkman swivels and escapes.

and Nicolosi counters by clinching up.
Nicolosi prevents Berkman from breaking the clinch.

Nicolosi drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Berkman gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Carlos Berkman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Nicolosi.
Berkman wants to break free but Nicolosi has control.
Berkman wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Nicolosi manages to break the clinch.
Nicolosi cracks the inside of Berkman's front leg.
Berkman throws an overhand right that lands on Nicolosi's shoulder, as Nicolosi tries to avoid the shot.
Berkman throws a jab but it's blocked by Nicolosi.
The fighters circling - Berkman throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Berkman jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nicolosi wants to clinch up but Berkman keeps it at a distance.

Nicolosi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Berkman throws the left hand but Nicolosi avoids the punch easily.
Berkman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Berkman is looking to chop away at Nicolosi's legs.
Berkman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Berkman is breathing heavily.
Berkman pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Berkman connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Nicolosi uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Berkman.

Berkman scores with a jab to the head.
Nicolosi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Berkman's waist but Berkman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nicolosi off to one side.
A telegraphed right hand from Berkman misses the target.
Berkman throws a jab when Nicolosi was well out of range.
Berkman misses with a straight left.
Nicolosi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Berkman swivels and escapes.
Nicolosi defending well as Berkman loads up on a big left hand.
Berkman lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.


It looks like Mauricio Nicolosi has been cut.
Berkman misses with a leg kick

and Nicolosi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Berkman's guard.
Nicolosi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Nicolosi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Nicolosi passes easily into side control. Nice work.
A lull in the action here as Nicolosi stalls from top position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Berkman is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Nicolosi is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Nicolosi dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Berkman takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Nicolosi throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Berkman stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Nicolosi follows into mount!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nicolosi controlling the position easily from mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nicolosi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mauricio Nicolosi just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Berkman misses with a looping left.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nice uppercut lands for Berkman. That snapped Nicolosi's head back.
Nicolosi scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Berkman pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Nicolosi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nicolosi shoots in but Berkman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nicolosi throws a nice head kick!


Carlos Berkman's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Nicolosi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nicolosi.
Carlos Berkman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Nicolosi.
Nicolosi looks for a takedown but Berkman sprawls well.
Berkman misses with a few strikes there.
Berkman throws a predictable looking body shot
and Nicolosi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Nicolosi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nicolosi lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nicolosi's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Berkman wants to stand but Nicolosi is controlling the position.
Nicolosi controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Nicolosi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Nicolosi shoots for a takedown but Berkman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Berkman thows a leg kick but Nicolosi checks it
and Nicolosi counters with an inside leg kick.
Berkman looks to land a right hand but Nicolosi moved out of range.
A head kick from Nicolosi lands but Berkman takes it in his stride.


Jeez, Carlos Berkman's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Carlos Berkman's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Mauricio Nicolosi!
