Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayer is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

It looks like Damen Mayer has been cut.
Mayer throws a hook to the side of Vasquez's head but Vasquez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Mayer tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Vasquez counters with a straight right hand.
Mayer bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Vasquez's head backwards.
Mayer has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Holding Cell in the buildup to the fight.
Vasquez thows a left - swing and a miss!
Mayer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vasquez manages to avoid it.
Mayer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vasquez was well out of range. Poor timing from Mayer.

and Mayer takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Mayer shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mayer was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Vasquez is trying to control Mayer's posture but Mayer avoids it.
Vasquez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
You can see the frustration on Vasquez's face as Mayer controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mayer wants to control but Vasquez is keeping him busy.
Mayer is really struggling to control Vasquez but he's trying to hold on to the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Mayer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mayer is looking to take a break and control but Vasquez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vasquez is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mayer is controlling him well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Vasquez bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Mayer scores with a decent looking hook.
Vasquez fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mayer has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Some bone on bone action there as Mayer checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Vasquez throws a lazy right hand but Mayer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mayer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vasquez on his heels. He'll look to pass Vasquez's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round but I would say that Damen Mayer will probably get the nod.

Vasquez throws a hook but Mayer avoids it easily.
Mayer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Vasquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mayer somewhat.
Vasquez throws a series of punches but Mayer avoids them all with ease.

Vasquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mayer throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vasquez sees it coming and avoids it easily.
And Vasquez responds with a good body kick, but Mayer manages to step out the way in time.

Vasquez walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Vasquez scores with a head kick. Mayer tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Mayer shoots in for a double leg but Vasquez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mayer shoots in looking for a takedown. Vasquez tries to sprawl out of it but Mayer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vasquez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Vasquez moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
