PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Damasio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Huerta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Huerta's choice of entrance music: Summer of 69. The key to victory for Antonio Damasio has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antonio Damasio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ron Huerta!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huerta tries to clinch up.
Damasio connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Damasio swats away the attempt to clinch by Huerta.
Huerta shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Huerta takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Damasio stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Damasio lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Damasio throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Huerta misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Damasio.
Huerta tries to clinch up but Damasio circles away and keeps his distance.
Huerta wants to clinch up but Damasio keeps it at a distance.

Damasio shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Damasio tries to pass the half guard into mount. Huerta knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Huerta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Damasio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Huerta can do anything to dispel that myth.

Damasio gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Damasio scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Damasio looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Damasio wants to take a breather but Huerta is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Huerta wants to improve his position but Damasio is controlling well.

Damasio postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Huerta to stand up.
Damasio scores with a nice strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Damasio moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ron Huerta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Damasio lands an overhand right.
Huerta tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Damasio paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Huerta drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Damasio managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Huerta.
The strikes coming from Huerta are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Huerta fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Damasio is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Huerta's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Huerta looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Damasio with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Huerta looks gassed!

Damasio makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Damasio.
Damasio lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Huerta!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Huerta has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Damasio is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Huerta taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Damasio.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Antonio Damasio!
