PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gil Hebert (ranked 24986 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paddy Doyle (ranked 5469 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Gil Hebert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paddy Doyle!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hebert shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Doyle sprawls well. Doyle wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hebert gets slowly back to his feet.
Doyle misses with a double jab

and Hebert counters with a takedown into side control.
Doyle bucks up and tries to throw Hebert off but instead Hebert has got his back!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

You can see the frustration on Doyle's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Doyle shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hebert manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hebert wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Doyle manages to pass to side control.

Doyle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hebert was covering up waiting for the punch and Doyle finishes the takedown easily into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hebert is on top in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hebert is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Doyle tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Doyle tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hebert sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Doyle somewhat.
Doyle is breathing heavily.
Doyle shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hebert pinned against the cage. Hebert gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hebert has managed to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gil Hebert will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Doyle can't break the clinch.

Hebert has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Doyle regains guard immediately.
Hebert is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Doyle fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hebert sprawls well initially but Doyle persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Doyle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Doyle is pressing down on Hebert's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hebert is holding on for now.

Hebert has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Doyle is working away from the top position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hebert, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
