PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joao Silvera (ranked 4588 p4p, 449 weight class) and Tony Albano (ranked 7156 p4p, 540 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joao Silvera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Albano!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Albano throws a left and a right that both miss
and Silvera counters with a stiff right hand.
Silvera definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Silvera is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Albano.
Albano appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Albano circles away from the clinch attempt.
Some wild striking there from Silvera.
Silvera slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silvera has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Albano finds it's way round the side to connect with Silvera's head.
Albano throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Silvera to counter with a crisp jab.
Albano lands with a nice body punch.
Silvera takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Silvera is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Silvera misses the shot to the body.
Despite the aggression on Albano's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Silvera is looking to slow Albano down with leg kicks.

Silvera uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Albano.
Silvera thinks about countering with a head kick.
Albano lands with a cross.
Silvera goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Silvera misses with an uppercut.

Albano drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Albano wants to control but Silvera is keeping him busy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Silvera is trying to get back to his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Albano wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silvera keeps working.

Silvera wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Silvera trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Albano throws a strike aimed at the side of Silvera's head but Silvera avoids it well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Silvera seems a little lost for a moment, as Albano dominates the positioning.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Tony Albano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice defenses there by Albano.
Silvera throws a head kick that half lands.
Albano throws a shot from downtown. Silvera moves away and avoids it.
Silvera is looking to counter the offense by Albano and move into the clinch.
Albano throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Silvera uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Albano.

Silvera takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Albano scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Silvera throws a lazy right hand but Albano sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Albano misses with a double jab
and Silvera counters with a nice uppercut.


Albano is rocked!
Silvera lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as Albano crumples to the floor! Silvera milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Joao Silvera!
During a confident post fight interview, Joao Silvera thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
