PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Whitney Larsen (ranked 25355 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Turner (ranked 8609 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Whitney Larsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Turner!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Turner scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Turner wants to control but Larsen is keeping him busy.
Larsen wants to get back to his feet.
Turner working away.
Turner trying to control the action but Larsen is working from the bottom.
Turner throws an elbow but Larsen slips to the side and avoids it well.
Larsen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Turner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Larsen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Turner tries to avoid it but Larsen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Turner to the ground. Turner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Larsen instigates a clinch.

Turner has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Larsen uses from the top position.
Larsen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Larsen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Turner is striking but Larsen is not phased and passes to half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Larsen drops an elbow to the side of Turner's head.
Larsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Turner wants to control the action here but instead Larsen manages to pass to full mount!
The referee warns Turner that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Turner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Larsen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Turner is on top in guard.
Larsen has control of Turner's left arm, preventing Turner from doing any damage.
Larsen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Turner wants to stand but Larsen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Turner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Turner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Larsen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Larsen has his feet on Turner's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Turner has Larsen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Turner pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Larsen tumbling to the mat - Turner dives into Larsen's guard.
Larsen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Turner looking to sit in guard and control but Larsen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Larsen postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Whitney Larsen will probably get the nod.
That's time! Larsen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Turner keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Larsen has a takedown stuffed.

Turner throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Larsen was covering up waiting for the punch and Turner finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Larsen pushes Turner off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Turner pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Larsen gets tackled into the cage by Turner. Turner maintains the clinch.
Turner wants to break the clinch but can't.

Turner lands a takedown into guard.
Turner trying to control but Larsen is working from the bottom.

Turner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Larsen keeping moving, preventing Turner from controlling successfully.
Turner looking to sit in guard and control but Larsen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Larsen wants to control from the top but Turner keeps moving.
Larsen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Turner not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Larsen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Larsen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Turner is looking to stand up but Larsen isn't so interested in that idea.
Larsen controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Turner shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Larsen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Larsen has his feet on Turner's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Larsen takes a kick to the side of the head.


Larsen is rocked!


It looks like Whitney Larsen has been cut.

Turner has closed the distance and engaged Larsen in a clinch.
Oh Larsen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Turner slows down the pace here.

Turner has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Larsen uses from the top position.

Turner thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Larsen's head.
Larsen tries to get to full guard but Turner has control of the leg.
Larsen seems to have got his legs back now.
Larsen has his hands clasped together around Turner's back. He's all about the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Larsen kicks off Turner and gets to his feet.
Whitney Larsen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Turner throws a head kick that misses.
Larsen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Turner is fending him off so far but Larsen persists. Nope, Turner circles away and we're back to standing.

Larsen rushes Turner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Turner drags the fight down to the ground.
Turner wants to get back to his feet but Larsen passes into half guard.

Larsen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Larsen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Larsen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Turner is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Larsen jumps into side control!
Turner is looking to reverse the position.

Larsen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Larsen scores with punches from side control.
Larsen in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Larsen misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Larsen staying calm.

Larsen stands up and beckons Turner to his feet.
Michael Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turner stuffs the takedown.
Turner lands a big head kick that sends Larsen to the canvas! Turner follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Turner!
