PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kaspars Petrovs (ranked 2223 p4p, 299 weight class) and Sea Level Cain (ranked 1565 p4p, 218 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kaspars Petrovs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Sea Level Cain!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrovs moves in looking to clinch but Cain pushes him off.
Cain takes one to the side of the head.
Petrovs closes the distance and clinches up with Cain, looking for a takedown. Petrovs pushes Cain against the cage but Cain circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Petrovs walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Cain checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Petrovs shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cain as he avoids it easily.
Petrovs fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaspars Petrovs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Petrovs takes a swing at Cain's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petrovs throws out a leg kick but Cain moves out of range and Petrovs only half commits.
Petrovs misses with a wild combination.
It seemed like Cain was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Cain has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Petrovs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cain tries to avoid it but Petrovs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cain to the ground. Cain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cain throws out a counter right but Petrovs avoids it with no problem.

Petrovs gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Cain.
Cain lands with a light punch inside.

Cain manages to pull guard.
Cain pulls Petrovs in close to his closed guard and prevents Petrovs from doing any damage or advancing position.
Petrovs trying to control but Cain is working from the bottom.
Petrovs working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Petrovs tries to free his leg and advance position but Cain is retaining full guard.

Cain is adopting a defensive guard.
Petrovs wants to pass the guard but Cain is keeping the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Petrovs trying to control the position from guard on top but Cain is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Petrovs is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Petrovs misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cain raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Petrovs tries to bum rush Cain with a series of wild strikes but Cain uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cain swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Nice takedown defense from Cain. No joy for Petrovs on that attempt.
Cain throws out a counter right but Petrovs avoids it with no problem.

Cain sends Petrovs crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Cain is motioning to the referee to let Petrovs up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


It looks like Kaspars Petrovs has been cut.
Petrovs tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cain throws out a counter right but Petrovs avoids it with no problem.
Cain moves out of range as Petrovs throws a body kick.

Petrovs drives through and clinches with Cain against the cage.
Petrovs changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cain fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Petrovs avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cain gets through Petrovs's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Cain drags the fight down to the ground.
Cain seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cain keeping moving, preventing Petrovs from controlling successfully.

Petrovs stands up and waves to Cain to follow him.
Cain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Petrovs counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cain misses with a punch on the inside.
Cain gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Petrovs.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Petrovs is trying to drag Cain to the mat but Cain just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cain gets control of Petrovs's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cain will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Let's hope that Cain has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Petrovs is looking to take a break and control but Cain is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cain clobbers Petrovs with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Petrovs lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Cain backs up against the cage.

Petrovs shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cain sprawls well. Cain wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Petrovs gets slowly back to his feet.

Cain connects with a nice cross there... Petrovs is looking wobbly and Cain recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Petrovs to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - Cain jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!

During a confident post fight interview, Sea Level Cain thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
