PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Oliveira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oliveira has chosen Rage against the machine - Killing in the Name as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Sherk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Oliveira!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliveira throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Oliveira rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sherk moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Oliveira cracks Sherk with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Sherk changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Oliveira looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Oliveira takes a swing at Sherk's ribcage but misses.
Oliveira stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Oliveira misses with a double jab.
Oliveira takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Sherk slips a jab and a cross from Oliveira.
Sherk is looking to clinch.
Oliveira cracks Sherk with an open hand slap.

Oliveira gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Oliveira wants to stand up but Sherk is controlling him.
Oliveira looks gassed!
Sherk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Sherk might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Oliveira utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oliveira looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sherk distracts Oliveira with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Oliveira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sherk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sherk trying to control the position from guard on top but Oliveira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Oliveira is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sherk is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Oliveira is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sherk ducks under a wild hook from Oliveira.
The fighters circling - Oliveira throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Oliveira swings for the body but Sherk moves out of range.
Oliveira throws a jab but it's blocked by Sherk.

Sherk moves in looking to clinch but Oliveira pushes him off.

Sherk closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sherk lands in his opponent's guard.
Sherk seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sherk has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sherk won't allow Oliveira to sweep him here.
Sherk connects with a couple of short punches.

Sherk wants to control from the top but Oliveira keeps moving.

Oliveira looking for a guillotine here but Sherk defends easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sherk slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Oliveira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sherk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Oliveira wants to sweep but no luck.
Sherk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Sherk seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Oliveira for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sergio Sherk dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Sherk closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Oliveira to the mat! Oliveira manages to get full guard.

Sherk stands up over Oliveira, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Oliveira wants to sweep here but Sherk controlling him for the moment.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Sergio Sherk just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Oliveira lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Sherk!
Oliveira takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oliveira keeps control of the position as Sherk tries to break free.

Sherk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oliveira on the ground.
Sherk staying busy and making it hard for Oliveira to control.
Sherk is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Sherk wants to control his opponent's hands but Oliveira gets his hands free.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Oliveira has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Sherk is defending well but eventually Oliveira manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Sherk has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
