PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Oliver (ranked 4273 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Bugbee (ranked 4911 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Oliver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Bugbee!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliver has his takedown stuffed
and Bugbee counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Oliver thinking.

Oliver closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Oliver is trying to trip Bugbee. He has hold of a leg but Bugbee is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Oliver persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Oliver makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Oliver might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bugbee wants to get back to his feet but Oliver is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Oliver stands up over Bugbee, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oliver lands a couple of digs.
Bugbee is looking to stand up but Oliver isn't so interested in that idea.
Bugbee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oliver. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Oliver seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Oliver slips nicely into half guard.
Bugbee wants to get back to his feet.

Oliver is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Nice strikes from Oliver there.

Oliver perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Oliver stops Bugbee from getting back to his feet.
Oliver not doing much here.
Bugbee looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Oliver has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Oliver.
Oliver lands with a punch from half guard.

Oliver decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Oliver fails with the takedown
and Bugbee counters with a one-two to the body.
Bugbee thuds his shin into the meat of Oliver's side.
Oliver fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Oliver. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oliver closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bugbee's guard.
Bugbee wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Oliver manages to pass to side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Oliver is controlling the pace.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Oliver's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Oliver lands strikes from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Oliver dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Oliver throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bugbee's waist but Bugbee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Oliver off to one side.
Oliver takes a kick to the side of the head.
Oliver is looking to clinch but Bugbee is avoiding it.
Bugbee goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Oliver fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bugbee's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Bugbee duly obliges.
Bugbee throws a head kick but Oliver moves out of range.
Alex Oliver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oliver is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bugbee sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Oliver. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bugbee misses with a jab, cross combination.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bugbee enables Oliver to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bugbee manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Oliver is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Bugbee wants to stand up but Oliver is controlling him.
Oliver is pushing down on Bugbee's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bugbee is fighting to maintain full guard but Oliver has managed to sneak the leg through.

Oliver moves nicely into side control.
Oliver controlling the position.
Oliver lands some shots froms side control.
The referee asks Oliver politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Oliver prefers to stall for the moment though.
Bugbee is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Oliver in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Oliver has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Oliver is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Bugbee is trying to escape and Oliver transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Bugbee is forced to tap! Nice work there by Oliver! Very nice indeed!
