Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Earnest Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dino Platcic!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Platcic shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Platcic showed some decent athleticism there.
Hicks manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Platcic keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Hicks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Platcic looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hicks has hold of one of Platcic's legs. Platcic is fighting the takedown attempt but Hicks gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Platcic wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hicks manages to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hicks is trying to control the action in half guard but Platcic is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Platcic felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Platcic is trying to stand.
Platcic is not content to let Hicks control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Hicks escapes and gets back to his feet.
Hicks gets a clinch.
Hicks's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Platcic is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hicks's half guard.
Hicks wants to control but Platcic is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Platcic throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Hicks is trying to maintain the position but Platcic is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hicks gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hicks manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Platcic manages to get himself to full guard.
Hicks stands and steps away. Platcic gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Hicks chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Hicks throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Platcic on the side of the head.
Hicks shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hicks in particular looking to stall.
Hicks postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Platcic to stand up.
Hicks clinches.
Hicks pulls guard successfully.
Platcic throws a big right hand that misses.
Hicks might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Platcic is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Hicks has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Platcic is looking to defend but Hicks has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Platcic! Hicks pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Platcic taps out and this one is all over!
