Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kaspars Petrovs (ranked 3293 p4p, 396 weight class) and John Carter (ranked 2861 p4p, 350 weight class). John Carter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kaspars Petrovs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, John Carter!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Carter has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Petrovs tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Petrovs somewhat.
Petrovs throws a right and a left that Carter avoids nicely.
Petrovs tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.
A head kick by Petrovs misses

and Carter counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Petrovs is keeping the position for now.

Carter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carter wants to control from the top but Petrovs keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Petrovs shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carter defends it nicely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter throws the left hand but Petrovs avoids the punch easily.
Carter shoots in for a takedown but Petrovs shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Petrovs moves into the clinch.

Carter fails with the takedown.
Petrovs seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

and Carter counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Petrovs wants to stand and escape but Carter is having none of it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Petrovs controls Carter momentarily but Carter frees himself.
Carter makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter wants to control from the top but Petrovs keeps moving.

Petrovs is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carter is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Carter cracks Petrovs with a big right hand but Petrovs just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Petrovs tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Carter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carter lands a strong strike to the head of Petrovs. That's dazed him! Carter looking to finish here. Petrovs is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Carter lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Carter!
A very excited looking John Carter made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
