PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leandro Moreno (ranked 7782 p4p, 0 weight class) and Prince Andrey (ranked 6782 p4p, 0 weight class). Andrey has chosen King of the ring as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leandro Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Prince Andrey!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moreno fails with an attempt to clinch.
Moreno moves in looking to clinch but Andrey pushes him off.
Andrey unleashes a big counter combination but Moreno bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

and Andrey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moreno has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Andrey can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Moreno wants to sweep here but Andrey controlling him for the moment.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Andrey is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Moreno tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Andrey paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Leandro Moreno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Andrey shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Andrey showed some decent athleticism there.
Moreno slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Andrey's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Moreno escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Andrey gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Andrey content to stall in guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Moreno is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Moreno gets caught flat footed, as Andrey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Andrey engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Prince Andrey dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Moreno moves in looking to clinch but Andrey pushes him off.
Despite the aggression on Andrey's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Andrey circles away from the clinch attempt.
Andrey is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Moreno tries to clinch but Andrey moves out of range.

and Andrey counters with a takedown into side control.
Moreno is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Andrey off and has taken his back!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Andrey is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Moreno gets his way!

Moreno is looking for the choke from the back position but Andrey is controlling his hands well.
Andrey covering up well and avoiding damage.
Andrey has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Moreno misses with a punch to the head.
Andrey wants to escape the position.
Andrey looking very determined here, making life difficult for Moreno.

Moreno misses with an elbow to the head.
Moreno is controlling the position but Andrey somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Andrey tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Moreno wants to stand but Andrey has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Andrey gets full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moreno throws a strike but Andrey rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Moreno is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Moreno is pulling down on Andrey's head. It's preventing any offense from Andrey, at least for the moment.
Andrey controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Moreno wants to clinch.

Andrey closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Moreno quickly recovers to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Prince Andrey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Andrey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Moreno trying to control but Andrey postures up.

Moreno tries to get to full guard but Andrey has control of the leg.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Andrey is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Andrey feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Moreno looking for subs off his back but Andrey has passed one foot through into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Andrey in particular looking to stall.
Andrey not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Still in half guard, Andrey seems content to control.

Moreno tries to roll over but Andrey keeps him under control.

Moreno is looking to get back to full guard here but Andrey has managed to pass to side control instead.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Moreno wants to control but Andrey is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Andrey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Moreno looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Moreno tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Andrey just content to control the position.

Prince Andrey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Andrey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
