The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Jonathan Paton and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Newman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Johnson to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Johnson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Newman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Johnson has managed to get both his arms back between Newman's legs - danger averted.

Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
