Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kip Newman (ranked 6984 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zack Taylor (ranked 5350 p4p, 488 weight class). Kip Newman has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kip Newman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zack Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Newman tries to sprawl but Taylor drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Newman makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
A head kick misses from Taylor.
Newman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Taylor avoids it really well and circles away.
Newman staying out of range there.
Newman swats away the attempt to clinch by Taylor.
Newman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Taylor unleashes a big counter combination but Newman bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Taylor closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Newman is looking for a sweep.

Taylor swings around for an armbar but Newman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Taylor's guard.
Taylor wants to sweep but no luck.

Newman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Taylor manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Newman has Taylor in his guard.

Taylor slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Newman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Taylor can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Newman wants to sweep but no luck.

Taylor controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Taylor trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Taylor works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Taylor is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Newman is just riding it out for now. Taylor eventually gives up the hold.
Newman is looking for a sweep. Taylor is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Newman manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Taylor controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Newman is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Taylor controlling from the top position.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Newman keeps moving.
Taylor looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Newman doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Taylor gets a takedown into half guard.
Newman is looking to get back to full guard here but Taylor has managed to pass to side control instead.
Newman tries to buck Taylor off but Taylor is having none of it.
Newman is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Taylor gets the takedown into side control.
Newman gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Newman is trying is best to control the position here.
Taylor takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Taylor stands up and beckons Newman to join him on the feet.

Newman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Taylor to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Taylor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Newman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Taylor defends it easily.
Taylor looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Newman will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Newman is trying to keep Taylor in close.
Taylor stands and throws Newman's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Newman is looking for a sweep.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Taylor is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Newman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Newman is trying to work for a sweep but Taylor has mounted him!
Taylor putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Newman tries to lock up and control but Taylor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Newman is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Newman working to try and regain half guard.
Newman tries to hold on but Taylor postures up.
Newman is looking to improve his position but Taylor isn't that keen on the idea.
Taylor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Newman is desperately trying to improve his position but Taylor has a good base and remains in mount.
Taylor avoids the attempt from Newman to control.
Taylor is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Newman can't stay in a position like this for much longer.


Newman is rocked!

Newman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Oh Newman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Taylor with shots to the head and body - Newman looks very uncomfortable down there.
Taylor postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Newman bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Taylor and the fight is over!
