Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darryl Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hebi Koiru!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koiru goes for a double leg but Frank avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Frank continues to drive forward.
Koiru shoots in for a double leg but Frank sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Frank displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Koiru.
Frank swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Darryl Frank has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hebi Koiru.
Frank slaps away a takedown attempt from Koiru, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Koiru throws a body punch but Frank moves out of range.
Koiru looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Koiru wants to control from the top but Frank keeps moving.
Koiru stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Frank swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Koiru is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Koiru accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Koiru trying to control but Frank is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Frank counters with a shoot takedown. Koiru fights it but they end up in guard.
Frank is in close to Koiru's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Koiru is looking for a triangle here but Frank uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Frank looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Koiru is avoiding damage well.
Koiru has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Koiru takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Koiru manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Frank wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Koiru.

Koiru throwing strikes here but Frank is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Koiru wants to control the pace but Frank is squirming around nicely.
Koiru blocks Frank's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Koiru looking to ground and pound but Frank is blocking nicely.
Koiru throwing strikes here but Frank is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Frank knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Koiru on the ground.
Koiru looking to control but Frank is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Frank tries to hold on but Koiru postures up.
Koiru throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Frank because Koiru loaded up on that one.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Koiru wants to control the pace but Frank is squirming around nicely.
Koiru thowing shots but they're missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Hebi Koiru will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


No luck with that takedown attempt from Koiru.
Koiru changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frank tries to avoid it but Koiru manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frank to the ground. Frank escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Frank wants to clinch.
Frank really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Frank gets a clinch.

Frank gets control of Koiru's arms and successfully pulls guard. Frank will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Koiru looking to sit in guard and control but Frank gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koiru not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Koiru is striking from the bottom but Frank uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Koiru slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Koiru looking to hit a scissor sweep but Frank is one step ahead there.
Koiru is trying to control the position but Frank postures up.
Koiru is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Frank will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Koiru tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Koiru pushes a forearm under Frank's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Frank is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hebi Koiru!
Hebi Koiru decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
