Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Blackburn (ranked 25058 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gene Curtis (ranked 5295 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Blackburn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gene Curtis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Curtis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blackburn's guard.
Curtis sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Blackburn really is a fat lump.
Curtis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Curtis throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Curtis stays in close to Blackburn's body and controls the position.
Curtis wants to control from the top but Blackburn keeps moving.

Blackburn throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Curtis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Blackburn!

Curtis stands up.
Curtis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Blackburn.
Blackburn tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Curtis manages to circle out of the way.
Curtis misses the shot to the body.
Blackburn tries to counter with a takedown but Curtis is quick to defend against it.
Curtis throws a sloppy head kick and Blackburn moves out of range easily.

Curtis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Blackburn, pushing him back against the cage.

Curtis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Curtis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Blackburn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Curtis is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Blackburn, into his guard.

Curtis stays in close to Blackburn's body and controls the position.
Blackburn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

It looks like Curtis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Blackburn thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Curtis throws a big right hand that misses.
Blackburn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Curtis is one step ahead there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Curtis postures up.
Curtis's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Blackburn wants to hit a switch here but Curtis passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Blackburn there!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Curtis closes the distance and pushes Blackburn back into the cage.

Curtis gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Curtis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Blackburn is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Curtis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Blackburn is one step ahead there.

Curtis pushes Blackburn off and scrambles back to his feet.

Curtis throws a sloppy head kick

and Blackburn counters by moving into the clinch.
Blackburn misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Curtis.
Blackburn throws a punch but it's blocked by Curtis.

Curtis manages to pull guard.
Curtis keeping moving, preventing Blackburn from controlling successfully.

Blackburn is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Curtis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Curtis has escaped and now he's on top!

Blackburn has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Curtis has passed into side control.

Curtis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blackburn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Curtis tries to move into full mount but can't pass Blackburn's legs.
A lull in the action here as Curtis stalls from top position.

A control attempt from Blackburn but he's now mounted!
Curtis throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Blackburn is looking to get to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Blackburn avoids a series of strikes thrown by Curtis.
Curtis throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Blackburn because Curtis loaded up on that one.
Curtis misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Blackburn holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Curtis tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Curtis looking to land elbow strikes but Blackburn uses the position to regain half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Curtis passes to side control.
Curtis slows the pace down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gene Curtis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Blackburn misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Curtis prevents a body shot from Blackburn.
Curtis blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Curtis jumps into guard, dragging Blackburn to the mat.
Curtis is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Curtis wants to hit a switch here but Blackburn passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Curtis there!

Blackburn manages to capitalize on a mistake by Curtis to take his back!

Curtis is in bad spot here.
Curtis turns into Blackburn and is now in his guard.
Curtis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Curtis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Curtis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Curtis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Curtis passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Blackburn!

Blackburn is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Curtis goes for an armbar but Blackburn turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Blackburn.
Curtis is pulling down on Blackburn's head to control his posture.
Gene Curtis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Curtis trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Curtis holds on and takes a little breather.

Blackburn missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Curtis trying to control the position.
Blackburn wants to control from the top but Curtis keeps moving.
Curtis is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Blackburn dives into side control.

Blackburn goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Curtis rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Blackburn's guard! Nice work there by Curtis!

Curtis forces his way into half guard.
Curtis not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Curtis postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Blackburn to stand up.

Curtis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Curtis stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gene Curtis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Curtis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
