Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Smith!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith closes the distance and clinches.

Newman is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Newman to the mat. Newman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Newman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Newman enables Smith to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Newman manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Smith manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Newman keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Smith wants the takedown. Newman is fighting it off but Smith persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Newman's guard against the cage.

Smith stands and steps away. Newman gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Smith closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Newman to the mat! Newman manages to get full guard.

Smith stands and steps away. Newman gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
