Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doc Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jake Tyler had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Doc Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson looks to throw the jab but Tyler is out of range.
Tyler has a takedown stuffed.
Tyler changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patterson tries to avoid it but Tyler manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patterson to the ground. Patterson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Patterson fails to land with a series of punches.

Tyler shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Patterson wants to control but Tyler passes into side.
Tyler remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Tyler in side control lands a decent elbow.

Patterson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tyler shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Patterson but Patterson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tyler closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Tyler lands in his opponent's guard.

Patterson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tyler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tyler seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Patterson for as long as he can get away with.

Patterson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Tyler shoots for a double leg takedown but Patterson sprawls well. He's pushed Tyler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tyler shoots in looking for a takedown. Patterson tries to sprawl out of it but Tyler keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Patterson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Patterson has one foot on Tyler's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Tyler shoots for a takedown but Patterson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Patterson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Patterson is looking to advance position but Tyler won't allow it.

Patterson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tyler sees it coming and defends easily.

Tyler moves into full guard.
Patterson wants to control from the top but Tyler keeps moving.
Patterson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tyler throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Tyler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Tyler wants to pass the guard but Patterson is defending well.
Tyler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Patterson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Patterson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Tyler dives into side control.
Patterson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tyler wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Patterson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Patterson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Tyler manages to get to full guard.
Tyler pulls Patterson in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jake Tyler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Tyler misses with a takedown attempt

and Patterson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tyler!
Patterson can't control as he wanted to and Tyler manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Tyler won't allow Patterson to pass to mount.
Tyler has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Patterson is working away from the top position though.

Jake Tyler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tyler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Patterson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Patterson's back!

Patterson rolls, trying to escape but Tyler keeps control of the position.
Patterson prevents Tyler from getting a body triangle.
Tyler controls the action.
Patterson manages to reverse the position and now he's in Tyler's guard. Nice work there by Patterson.

Patterson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Tyler is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Tyler has escaped and now he's on top!

Tyler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jake Tyler just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Tyler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Patterson looks to move to half guard but instead Tyler has passed into mount! Damn!

Tyler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Tyler showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tyler, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
