PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Penduko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg MacDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Greg MacDonald was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pedro Penduko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg MacDonald!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penduko shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says MacDonald as he avoids it easily.
Penduko drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
MacDonald lands a two punch combo.
MacDonald scores with a nice right hand.
MacDonald lands a jab to the head.
MacDonald drops Penduko with a left right combo! MacDonald follows him down to the ground into side control.


Penduko is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Penduko is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked MacDonald off and has taken his back!

Penduko tightening his grip on MacDonald, looking for the choke.
MacDonald is trying to get back to his feet but Penduko has full control of the position and if anything, MacDonald has just worked his way into a worse spot.
MacDonald is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

MacDonald defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Penduko's arms.

Penduko working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Penduko is looking for the choke from the back position but MacDonald is controlling his hands well.

Penduko patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Penduko is breathing heavily.

Penduko looking to break MacDonald's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. MacDonald remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Penduko will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Penduko is not going to allow MacDonald to sit and survive in this position.

MacDonald defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Penduko's arms.
MacDonald is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Penduko has his opponent's back but MacDonald is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Penduko.
MacDonald stalks Penduko and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Penduko's face. Penduko staggers backwards, shaken.
MacDonald works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
MacDonald throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Penduko takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
MacDonald gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Penduko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

MacDonald pushes Penduko off and scrambles back to his feet.
A punch combination from MacDonald misses.
MacDonald is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
MacDonald lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
MacDonald throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penduko on the side of the head.
MacDonald throws a right and a left that both miss.
Greg MacDonald is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
No joy there for MacDonald, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
MacDonald scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Penduko keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A nice combination there by MacDonald.
MacDonald throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Penduko.
Penduko showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from MacDonald.
No luck for Penduko with that takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Penduko displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as MacDonald throws out the jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg MacDonald dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

MacDonald throws a combination. Penduko tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
MacDonald misses with a double jab.
Pedro Penduko is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
MacDonald swinging wilding here.
MacDonald throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
MacDonald thows a body shot but no joy.
MacDonald thuds a left hand into Penduko's body.
MacDonald scores with a jab to the jaw.
Greg MacDonald seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
MacDonald is breathing heavily.

MacDonald plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Greg MacDonald seems to be getting the better of the standup.
MacDonald throws a low kick, looking for Penduko's leg but Penduko calmly moves out of range.
A jab from MacDonald misses.
MacDonald connects with the punch.
MacDonald bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Penduko's head backwards.
MacDonald lands a two punch combo.
Penduko slips a straight right by MacDonald.

Penduko drives through with a takedown into guard.
Penduko advances position into side control!

Penduko thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Penduko tries for a kimura but MacDonald is defending well.

Penduko goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, MacDonald rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Penduko's guard! Nice work there by MacDonald!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penduko throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! MacDonald escapes and throws Penduko's legs to the side, diving into side control!

MacDonald controlling the position.
MacDonald gets to mount! Penduko was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
MacDonald controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Penduko is looking to get to half guard.
MacDonald controlling from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg MacDonald showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Penduko gets cracked with a nice right hand there by MacDonald.

MacDonald jabs at Penduko's body.
MacDonald changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
MacDonald uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Penduko takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Nice straight punches there by MacDonald. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of MacDonald.
MacDonald misses with the combination.
MacDonald fails to land with a series of punches.

MacDonald scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
MacDonald takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
MacDonald jabs at Penduko's body.
Penduko ducks right into an uppercut from MacDonald.
MacDonald swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
MacDonald looks to land a combination but Penduko avoids it well.
MacDonald lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
MacDonald misses with a few strikes there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
MacDonald stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
MacDonald scores with a jab.
Penduko looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
MacDonald throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
MacDonald throws a series of strikes that have Penduko backpedaling.
Penduko shoots in for a double leg but MacDonald sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
MacDonald throws a body punch but Penduko moves out of range.
Penduko displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as MacDonald throws out the jab.
MacDonald throws a hook but Penduko blocks it.
MacDonald looks to land a combination but Penduko avoids it well.

A combination from MacDonald does no damage.
Penduko checks a leg kick.

Penduko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Penduko lands in his opponent's guard.

Penduko drops back looking for a leg! MacDonald is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and MacDonald manages to kick Penduko off! Penduko jumps back into MacDonald's guard.
Penduko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed MacDonald's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
MacDonald tries to roll over but Penduko keeps him under control.

Penduko is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Penduko is trying to work for a kimura but MacDonald is defending well.
Penduko tries to pass the half guard into mount. MacDonald knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Greg MacDonald comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got MacDonald winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
