PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antoine Knight (ranked 24940 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Ravenna (ranked 4906 p4p, 0 weight class). Ravenna has chosen Arise by Wolfgang as his entrance music. Chris Ravenna will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Antoine Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Ravenna!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Joseph Jones and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ravenna fails to land the takedown.
Ravenna shoots for a double leg takedown but Knight sprawls well. He's pushed Ravenna's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Knight counters by moving into the clinch.
Antoine Knight has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Ravenna.
Ravenna makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Ravenna's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ravenna moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Ravenna changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Knight tries to avoid it but Ravenna manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Knight to the ground. Knight escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ravenna darts in looking for a takedown but Knight gets double underhooks and turns Ravenna into the cage.
Knight throws a nice looking combination but Ravenna bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A left and a right from Knight both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Chris Ravenna has been cut.
Knight swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ravenna throws a one two combo.


It looks like Antoine Knight has been cut.
Knight misses with a head kick.
Knight ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Ravenna takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ravenna darts in and clinches Knight up against the cage.

Ravenna jumps into guard, dragging Knight to the mat.

Knight drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Knight jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ravenna is controlling Knight's posture.
Knight throwing strikes from guard but Ravenna blocks nicely.

Ravenna had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Knight defends it easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Knight could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ravenna drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Knight gets the underhooks and prevents it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ravenna breaks from the clinch.
Ravenna shoots in but no luck this time.

Ravenna closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Ravenna stops a takedown attempt from Knight.
Ravenna is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Antoine Knight will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ravenna closes the distance and clinches up with Knight, looking for a takedown. Ravenna pushes Knight against the cage but Knight circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
It looked like Knight wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A nice leg kick lands there from Ravenna.

and Knight connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ravenna shoots in but no luck this time.

Knight seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Ravenna has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Knight is trying to keep an underhook but Ravenna manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Knight makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Ravenna has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Knight is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Knight takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Knight tries to throw a body punch but Ravenna avoids it by throwing Knight back against the cage.
Ravenna is pressed up against the cage. Knight has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ravenna down to the mat. Ravenna avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Knight stalks Ravenna and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ravenna's face. Ravenna staggers backwards, shaken.

Ravenna tries to score a power double leg takedown but Knight sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ravenna somewhat.

Ravenna fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Knight to the ground. Ravenna is now in Knight's guard.

Knight controls Ravenna momentarily but Ravenna frees himself.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Knight pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Ravenna moves into the clinch successfully.

Ravenna pulls Knight into guard.
Ravenna managing to control the position.
Ravenna is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ravenna is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Knight looks like he's trying to stand up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ravenna wants to take the fight to the mat but Knight manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Chris Ravenna has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Antoine Knight is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Knight is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ravenna is just riding it out for now. Knight eventually gives up the hold.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Ravenna comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Knight has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
