Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joey Workman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuel Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz has Workman up against the cage in a clinch.
Ruiz cracks Workman with a nice body shot.

It looks like Joey Workman has been cut.
Ruiz landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Ruiz gets control of Workman's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ruiz will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Ruiz has his foot on Workman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Workman works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ruiz dives in and grabs Workman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Workman pushes down on Ruiz's head and hops out.
Ruiz shoots for a takedown but Workman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Workman tries to counter with a takedown but Ruiz is quick to defend against it.

Workman gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Ruiz clinches with his opponent.

Ruiz looking for a sweep. Not yet Ruiz, not yet.
Workman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ruiz not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Workman won't allow Ruiz to sweep him here.

Workman gets to his feet - Ruiz follows without any prompting.

Ruiz has Workman up against the cage in a clinch.

Ruiz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ruiz stuffs the takedown attempt from Workman. Workman gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ruiz drives through with a takedown into Workman's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Workman is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ruiz dives into side control.

Ruiz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Workman sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Ruiz tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Ruiz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Workman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Ruiz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Workman throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Ruiz dives in and scores a takedown into Workman's guard.

Workman pushes Ruiz off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ruiz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Workman was covering up waiting for the punch and Ruiz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ruiz prevents Workman from getting back to his feet.
Ruiz pushes down on Workman's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Ruiz stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Workman gets caught flat footed, as Ruiz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Workman is on top in guard.


Workman is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Ruiz has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Workman is looking to defend but Ruiz has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Workman! Ruiz pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Workman taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Samuel Ruiz!
Samuel Ruiz seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
