Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diarmuid Curry (ranked 15 p4p, 1 weight class) and Sunray Spike (ranked 77 p4p, 3 weight class). Curry comes to the cage accompanied by Epic Celtic Music. Spike is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: For Heavy Metal we will die!. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Diarmuid Curry!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sunray Spike!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spike throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Spike scores with a leg kick.
Sunray Spike seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spike misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Curry looks for the body kick but Spike saw that one coming.
Spike throws a wild body kick that Curry sees coming a mile off.
Curry is looking to slow Spike down with leg kicks.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Curry.
Spike tried to score with a low kick but Curry checks it.
Spike throws a sloppy head kick and Curry moves out of range easily.
Spike has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Curry throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Spike throws out a counter right but Curry avoids it with no problem.

It looks like Sunray Spike has been cut.
Spike ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Curry defending well as Spike loads up on a big left hand.
Curry sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

and Curry connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Curry counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Spike is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Curry with a body shot.
Curry looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Spike moves forwards but Curry connects with a nice, crisp jab.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That kick from Spike tenderised Curry's leg. Curry is trying to keep his angry face on.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Curry lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Curry takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Spike feints and then cracks Curry's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Curry down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Diarmuid Curry will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Sunray Spike's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Curry ducks right into an uppercut from Spike.
Curry thows a left - swing and a miss!
Spike does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
It looked like Curry wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Curry tries a head kick but it misses.
Spike only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Spike throws a low kick but Curry moves out of range easily.

Spike uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Curry has time to react.
Spike has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Spike there as he acknowledges the shot.
Spike will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Spike unleashes a big counter combination but Curry bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Curry takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Curry explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

and Curry counters with a nice right hand that sends Spike toppling to the canvas! Spike scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Curry finish him?!

Spike swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Curry throws an overhand right that drops Spike like a sack of potatoes! Curry dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

After winning the bout, Diarmuid Curry thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
