PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Prohor Georgiev (ranked 4250 p4p, 315 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 5755 p4p, 358 weight class). Georgiev's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Oxxxymiron - City under the sole. Dwight Schrute is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dwight Schrute!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Georgiev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Schrute is trying to get back to half guard.

Georgiev swings around for an armbar but Schrute sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Georgiev's guard.

No joy there for Schrute, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Schrute lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Horrible takedown attempt by Georgiev or perhaps it was just good defense by Schrute, which made it look bad.

Georgiev darts in and clinches Schrute up against the cage.
Georgiev changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Schrute fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Georgiev jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Schrute walks away with a smile on his face. Georgiev gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Georgiev is pulling down on Schrute's head. It's preventing any offense from Schrute, at least for the moment.

Georgiev has his foot on Schrute's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Schrute works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Prohor Georgiev will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Georgiev takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A punch lands to the side of Georgiev 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Georgiev looks to throw the jab but Schrute is out of range.
Georgiev closes the distance and clinches up with Schrute, looking for a takedown. Georgiev pushes Schrute against the cage but Schrute circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schrute feints a jab promting Georgiev to slip. Schrute then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Georgiev slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

and Schrute makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Georgiev tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Schrute was well out of range. Poor timing from Georgiev.
Schrute throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Schrute has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Schrute stalks Georgiev and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Georgiev's face. Georgiev staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Schrute uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Georgiev.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Georgiev throws a good cross that connects.
Georgiev uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Schrute.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Georgiev is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at VenDettaGYM, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
