PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kory Acevedo (ranked 5364 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Racing (ranked 4757 p4p, 0 weight class). King Racing told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kory Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King Racing!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Racing closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Acevedo's guard.
Acevedo has control of Racing's left arm, preventing Racing from doing any damage.
Acevedo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Racing missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Racing wants to stand but Acevedo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Acevedo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Racing has managed to clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Racing.

Acevedo throws a punch but it's blocked by Racing.

Racing pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Acevedo lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Racing is trying to trip Acevedo. He has hold of a leg but Acevedo is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Racing persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Racing wants to stand and escape but instead Acevedo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Acevedo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Racing had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Acevedo defends it easily.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Acevedo connects with a nice short shot to Racing's temple.

Acevedo seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Acevedo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Racing is just riding it out for now. Acevedo eventually gives up the hold.

Acevedo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Racing doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Acevedo.

Acevedo goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Racing is on top in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Acevedo wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Racing is now in half guard.

Acevedo pulls Racing in close to prevent any damage.

Acevedo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Racing controls the pace.

Acevedo pulls Racing in close to his closed guard and prevents Racing from doing any damage or advancing position.

Racing is fighting to break Acevedo's control of his arms but Acevedo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Acevedo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Racing can do to turn this around?

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Racing stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fight stays on the outside here - Acevedo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Racing shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Acevedo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Acevedo tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Acevedo is desperately trying to improve his position but Racing has a good base and remains in mount.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Acevedo is trying to maintain the position but Racing is very close to passing his half guard.
Racing wants to take a breather but Acevedo is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Racing seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Acevedo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Racing bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Racing decides to stand up, so the ref orders Acevedo to his feet.

Racing has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Racing feints and as Acevedo raises his hands in defense, Racing changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Racing trying to control the position from guard on top but Acevedo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Racing must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Acevedo has Racing pulled in close to control his posture.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

King Racing has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
King Racing seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Racing gets a double leg takedown into Acevedo's guard.
Kory Acevedo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

King Racing comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Acevedo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
