PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Norifumi Yamamoto (ranked 2491 p4p, 289 weight class) and Royler Gracie (ranked 3655 p4p, 388 weight class). Gracie comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Olha a Explosão kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Norifumi Yamamoto has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royler Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamamoto misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gracie.
Yamamoto throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
Gracie changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Gracie shoots in and drives through. Yamamoto sprawls well.
Gracie misses with a body shot.

Royler Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Yamamoto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Yamamoto definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Gracie's coach down at ELITE Island Gym - 19 Elite Coaches was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gracie's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Gracie shoots in and drives through. Yamamoto sprawls well.
Norifumi Yamamoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royler Gracie.

Gracie throws a lazy right hand but Yamamoto sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

A punch lands to the side of Gracie 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Yamamoto decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gracie's guard.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Yamamoto is fighting to break Gracie's control of his arms but Gracie is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Yamamoto shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gracie pinned against the cage. Gracie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Yamamoto manages to avoid it.

Yamamoto bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yamamoto is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Gracie is looking to control Yamamoto's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gracie avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yamamoto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Gracie defends it well.
