PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Wallace (ranked 25045 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Fell (ranked 5141 p4p, 0 weight class). Simon Fell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Fell!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wallace throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Fell rushes Wallace and presses him up against the cage.
Fell jumps guard but Wallace turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Nice body punch from Fell - that landed with a thud.
Wallace wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Fell has him pressed against the cage.
A short right from Wallace.
Wallace misses with a hook from the clinch.
Wallace effectively controlling the action here.
Fell can't get the takedown.
Wallace tries to land a knee to the head but Fell blocks with his arms.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wallace's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wallace misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fell is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Fell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wallace manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wallace throws a sloppy head kick and Fell moves out of range easily.

Fell scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


It looks like Tommy Wallace has been cut.

Fell takes the fight into the clinch.
Wallace has Fell pressed against the cage, preventing Fell from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Fell.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Fell.

Fell manages to break the clinch.
Fell shoots for a double leg takedown but Wallace sprawls well. He's pushed Fell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tommy Wallace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Simon Fell.
Fell fails with the takedown

and Wallace counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Fell tries to score a body lock takedown but Wallace shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Wallace fails to pull guard.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Wallace.
Fell jumps guard but Wallace stands there with Fell around his waist. Fell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Wallace's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wallace is trying to break free.
Wallace is trying to push Fell away but Fell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Wallace misses with some punches.

Wallace pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Wallace shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fell's guard.

Fell has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Wallace has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Wallace gets control of Fell's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wallace will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wallace is working an open guard so Fell takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Fell is looking to clinch.
Wallace circles away from the clinch attempt

and Wallace counters with a single leg into guard. Fell didn't expect that.

Fell wants to get back to his feet but Wallace passes into half guard.
Fell is trying is best to control the position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Fell pushes Wallace off and gets back to his feet.
Wallace showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Fell.
Wallace swings and misses with a hook to the body.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fell is defended easily by Wallace.
Fell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Wallace tries to keep at a distance but Fell has taken the fight into the clinch.
Wallace is looking to control Fell's arms but Fell gets an underhook and turns him. Now Wallace has his back to the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Wallace pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Fell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wallace just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fell tries to pull guard but Wallace won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tommy Wallace will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Wallace makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Fell instigates a clinch.
Fell tries to pull guard but Wallace won't allow it.
Fell jumps guard but Wallace turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Wallace takes a kick to the side of the head.

Fell gets caught flat footed, as Wallace shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Wallace stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Fell looks for a takedown but Wallace sprawls well.

Fell tries to close the distance and clinch but Wallace swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wallace fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Fell throws out a counter right but Wallace avoids it with no problem.
Fell doesn't manage to clinch there - Wallace circles away.

Wallace fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fell doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Fell walks into a jab.
No luck for Wallace with that takedown attempt.

Wallace shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wallace showed some decent athleticism there.
Wallace prevents Fell from improving his position.

Fell looks like he's trying to stand up.

Fell looking for submissions off his back.
Wallace is looking to advance position but Fell won't allow it.
Fell tries to roll over but Wallace keeps him under control.

Fell makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fell.

Fell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fell keeping moving, preventing Wallace from controlling successfully.

Wallace might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wallace seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Fell wants to get back to his feet but Wallace is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wallace's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tommy Wallace will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Fell takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Fell swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Fell is looking to clinch.
Wallace is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fell sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Simon Fell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fell fails with a takedown attempt.
Fell wants to clinch up but Wallace keeps it at a distance.
Wallace tries to counter by clinching up but Fell breaks away and moves out of range.
Fell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Wallace manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Wallace dives in and grabs Fell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fell pushes down on Wallace's head and hops out.

Fell shoots in for a takedown but Wallace shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fell is looking to clinch.
Wallace shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Fell defends it nicely.
No luck for Fell with that takedown attempt.

Fell swats away the attempt to clinch by Wallace.

Fell wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Wallace manages to pass to side control.

Wallace tries to stand and escape but Fell is controlling the position.
Fell tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Wallace manages to move to mount!
Tommy Wallace overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fell tries to improve his position but instead Wallace has taken his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wallace is not going to allow Fell to sit and survive in this position.
Fell rolls, trying to escape but Wallace keeps control of the position.
Fell turns into Wallace and is now in his guard.
Fell's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Wallace wants to sweep but no luck.
Wallace pulls Fell in close to prevent any damage.
Wallace not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fell stops Wallace from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fell postures up in Wallace's guard and throws a big left but Wallace blocks it.
Fell won't allow Wallace to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fell lands a couple of digs.
Fell controls from within his opponent's guard.
Wallace is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Fell advances position into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wallace defending against the ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tommy Wallace.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wallace, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
