PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lon Whitaker (ranked 5267 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arbien Quequegan (ranked 5288 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lon Whitaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Arbien Quequegan !
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitaker feints and as Quequegan raises his hands in defense, Whitaker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Quequegan working for submissions but it's allowed Whitaker to get to half guard.
Quequegan is trying to stand back up but Whitaker is controlling him
Quequegan throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Whitaker is nestled in close to Quequegan , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Whitaker slips a nice elbow through Quequegan 's hands, connecting with Quequegan 's forehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quequegan wants to improve his position but Whitaker is controlling well.

Quequegan is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Whitaker presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Quequegan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Whitaker is working Quequegan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Whitaker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Quequegan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Quequegan has momentary wrist control but Whitaker slips an elbow through the middle.

Quequegan throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Whitaker escapes and throws Quequegan 's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Whitaker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Whitaker working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Whitaker cracks Quequegan with a big elbow.
Whitaker lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Quequegan down.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Quequegan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Whitaker is looking to take a break and control but Quequegan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Whitaker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Quequegan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Quequegan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Whitaker uses from the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Quequegan is pressing down on Whitaker's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Quequegan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Whitaker sprawls well initially but Quequegan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Whitaker pushes Quequegan off looking to stand but Quequegan dives back in and keeps control.
Whitaker wants to stand back up but Quequegan manages to pass into side control.
A lull in the action here.

Whitaker explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Quequegan gets control of Whitaker's arms and successfully pulls guard. Quequegan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Quequegan has his foot on Whitaker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whitaker works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Whitaker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Quequegan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Whitaker is working away from the top position though.

Whitaker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Whitaker closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Quequegan is trying to escape back to his feet but Whitaker uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Whitaker is chipping away with strikes.
You can see the frustration on Quequegan 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Quequegan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Whitaker connects with a decent elbow.
Arbien Quequegan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lon Whitaker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Whitaker is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Whitaker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
