PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mikal Sully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sully comes to the cage accompanied by walk. Chan has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikal Sully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jakie Chan!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sully has closed the distance and engaged Chan in a clinch.
Chan looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sully creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Chan's defenses.
Chan is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Sully throws an elbow but it misses.
Sully drops down looking for an ankle pick but Chan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sully looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chan is fending him off so far but Sully persists. Nope, Chan circles away and we're back to standing.
Sully connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.


It looks like Jakie Chan has been cut.
Sully lands a with a good body shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chan moves away from the strike by Sully.
Sully fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikal Sully. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sully shoots in for a double leg but Chan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sully with a nice cross.
Sully lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Sully throws a sloppy head kick and Chan moves out of range easily.
Sully throws a head kick that misses.
Chan walks into a straight right hand from Sully.

Sully has taken the fight to the clinch.

Sully lands a knee to the head.
Sully throws a knee to the head but misses.

Chan dodges an elbow strike from Sully.

Sully's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sully looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Chan is fending him off so far but Sully persists. Nope, Chan circles away and we're back to standing.

Chan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Chan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sully is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sully looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chan is one step ahead there.
Sully is working hard here to advance position.

Chan throwing strikes but missing.
Chan won't allow Sully to get back to his feet.
Chan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Sully's guard.

Chan tries to free his leg and advance position but Sully is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sully throws a body kick that misses.
Sully explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Chan blocks a head kick by Sully.
Sully throws a head kick that misses.
Chan moves away from the strike by Sully.
Sully with a poor takedown

and Chan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sully's guard.
Chan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Chan wants to control from the top but Sully keeps moving.
Chan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sully swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sully has his hands on Chan's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sully throws a lazy head kick
and Chan counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Sully wants to clinch.
Chan takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
No joy there for Sully, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mikal Sully is winning the standup battle so far.
Sully lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Chan shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Chan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sully swivels and escapes.
Sully throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Sully tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sully misses with a few strikes there.

Chan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chan passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Sully!

Chan lands a big elbow.
Sully is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Chan controlling from mount.
Chan landing strikes, looking to finish!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Chan wants to control the pace but Sully is squirming around nicely.
Chan throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Chan throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Sully because Chan loaded up on that one.
Sully avoids a series of strikes thrown by Chan.

Chan is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sully has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sully!
Sully is pushing down on Chan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chan is fighting to maintain full guard but Sully has managed to sneak the leg through.

Sully controlling the action here.
Sully is looking to advance position but Chan won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chan is trying to control but can't.
Chan is looking to improve his position.
Chan is staying active underneath Sully, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sully has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Sully stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Sully is looking to clinch but Chan is avoiding it.
Sully thows a body shot but no joy.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Sully, as that shot connected.
Chan moves forwards but Sully connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Sully misses with a body kick.
Sully throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Sully lands a high kick!
Chan tries to score with a low kick but Sully moves his leg out of the way.

Sully closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Chan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sully gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Chan tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sully just stands there and leans against the cage.
Sully tries a knee to the head but Chan blocks it.
Sully comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Sully wants a takedown but no success here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sully wants to get back to striking at distance but Chan won't allow it.
Sully tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Chan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sully pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sully throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Chan has Sully up against the cage in a clinch.
Chan tries to pull guard but Sully holds him up against the cage and eventually Chan drops back down to his feet.
Mikal Sully has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakie Chan.
Sully just leaning against Chan, taking a breather.
Sully throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Chan blocks it with crossed arms.
Sully using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Sully misses with a knee to the head.
Chan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Sully looking to throw knees to the head but Chan is blocking nicely.

Chan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sully uses from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chan is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Chan has gone for a leg lock! Sully slips out almost immediately though and dives into Chan's guard.
Jakie Chan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mikal Sully is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Chan working for submissions but it's allowed Sully to get to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mikal Sully showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sully, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
