PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Cotto (ranked 635 p4p, 103 weight class) and Sendou Kitano (ranked 792 p4p, 128 weight class). Kitano has chosen Hokuto No Ken - You wa Shock as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Sendou Kitano!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kitano on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.


It looks like Sendou Kitano has been cut.
Cotto throws a hook but Kitano avoids it easily.
Kitano looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A head kick by Cotto misses
and Kitano counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Miguel Cotto has been cut.
Cotto shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Kitano eats them both and turns towards Cotto to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Cotto has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Lucky Liam's MMA Academy in the buildup to the fight.
Kitano throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cotto.
Cotto looks to land a combination but Kitano avoids it well.
A little jabbing left from Kitano on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kitano misses with the combination.
Kitano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cotto cracks a nice hook into Kitano's ribs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cotto tries to clinch up but Kitano circles away and keeps his distance.

Kitano moves out of range as Cotto throws a body kick.
Jab, jab by Cotto - just one landing.
Kitano throws a lazy head kick
and Kitano takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kitano uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cotto.
A little jabbing left from Kitano on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Cotto lands with a cross.
Cotto throws a head kick that Kitano semi-blocks.
Kitano throws a low kick but Cotto moves out of range easily.
Cotto fires out a quick counter leg kick but Kitano just manages to avoid it.
Cotto lands a two punch combo.


Kitano is rocked!
Kitano buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Kitano slips a jab and a cross from Cotto.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kitano! But no joy.
Kitano thumps Cotto with a low kick.
A head kick from Cotto lands but Kitano takes it in his stride.
Kitano is still on wobbly legs! Can Cotto finish him?
Kitano changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Kitano seems to have recovered his senses.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cotto pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cotto thuds a left hand into Kitano's body.
A combination from Cotto does no damage.
Kitano tries to counter with a clinch but Cotto shakes him off and moves away.
Kitano misses with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kitano misses with a wild body shot.
Cotto connects with a leg kick. Kitano looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Cotto throws a head kick that misses.
Kitano doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Cotto changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Cotto jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cotto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cotto on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Cotto throws a big shot that misses.
Cotto steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kitano.

Cotto tries to clinch but Kitano moves away
and Kitano counters with a stiff right hand.
Kitano avoids the body shot from Cotto.

Cotto closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Kitano tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kitano throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cottos head.
Kitano prevents a body shot from Cotto.
Kitano with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Cotto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cotto looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Cotto pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kitano misses with a wild body shot.
Cotto connects with an inside leg kick.
Kitano slips a jab and a cross from Cotto.
Kitano appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Cotto throws an off balance right hand
and Kitano counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Kitano pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cotto displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Cotto has managed to clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kitano throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Cotto blocks it with crossed arms.

Kitano misses with a short punch on the inside.
Cotto takes a shot to the head.
Kitano tries to throw a body punch but Cotto avoids it by throwing Kitano back against the cage.

Kitano misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Cotto.
Cotto swings wildly with an uppercut but Kitano uses good head movement to avoid it.
Cotto goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Cotto throws a head punch that misses.
A frustrated look appears on Cotto's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Kitano with an attempt at a knee that misses.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Cotto.
Kitano misses with a knee to the head.
Kitano lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Cotto backwards.
Cotto lands a shoulder strike.
A head punch on the inside from Kitano fails to land.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cotto misses with a body punch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Kitano.
Cotto tries to throw a body punch but Kitano avoids it by throwing Cotto back against the cage.
Cotto tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kitano's elbow.
Cotto misses with a short punch on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Miguel Cotto dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Kitano lands a leg kick that knocks Cotto off balance momentarily.

Despite the aggression on Kitano's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Cotto is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kitano can do to turn this around?

Cotto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kitano moves away.
Kitano is trying to counter with his kicks.
Cotto ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Miguel Cotto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A decent looking cross lands there for Kitano.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cotto lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Miguel Cotto is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cotto misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Cotto, as that shot connected.
Cotto cracks the inside of Kitano's front leg.
Cotto fails to land with a series of punches.
As Cotto backs off Kitano throws a huge counter combo but Cotto manages to avoid it all.

Kitano takes a kick to the side of the head.
Cotto throws a sloppy body shot
letting Kitano counter with a right hand.
Cotto throws a lazy head kick
and Kitano cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


Cotto is rocked!
Kitano moves in close and cracks Cotto with a massive right hand! Cotto, frozen momentarily in time, tumbles to the canvas, already out cold! A brutal knockout by Kitano!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sendou Kitano!
After the fight, Sendou Kitano was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
