TWGC 24 (135lbs, D3): Las Vegas Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a bantamweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Wayne Chung (ranked 3744 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Gable (ranked 3390 p4p, 157 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Wayne Chung has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Wayne Chung seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

In the red corner, competing out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Wayne Chung! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Dan Gable!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Gable moves into the clinch.

Chung works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Gable has his foot on Chung's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chung works his way back into a safe position though.
Chung tries to free his leg and advance position but Gable is retaining full guard.
Chung looking to sit in guard and control but Gable gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Chung drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gable looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gable looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gable!

Chung is not content to let Gable control the position.
You can see the frustration on Chung's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gable wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chung keeps working.

Gable is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Gable tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Chung sneaks back into half guard.

Gable is working for a submission of some sort.

Gable slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Gable got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chung has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gable has managed to get both his arms back between Chung's legs - danger averted.

Chung has control of Gable's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gable regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gable is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Chung goes for an armbar but Gable turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gable.

Chung is pulling down on Gable's head. It's preventing any offense from Gable, at least for the moment.

Chung is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Chung has his hands clasped together around Gable's back. He's all about the action.

As we have tied on points and both fighters attempted the same number of subs, we will decide the bout based on the toss of a coin! Chung is heads and Gable is tails.
The coin is in the air and it lands... tails!
Gable wins on points by 9 to 8.
