Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Forrest Griffen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tai Won Awn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Awn has chosen The Bull God as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Forrest Griffen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tai Won Awn!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Awn was well out of range. Poor timing from Griffen.
Jab by Griffen.
Griffen shoots in but no luck this time.
Awn shoots in but no luck this time.
Griffen shoots and misses

and Awn counters with a single leg into guard. Griffen didn't expect that.
Griffen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffen had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Awn is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Griffen Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Awn's back instead.
Griffen not allowing Awn to control his hands.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffen throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Awn looking very determined here, making life difficult for Griffen.
Awn looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Awn just trying to survive but Griffen is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Griffen throwing sloppy strikes.

Griffen is not going to allow Awn to sit and survive in this position.

Griffen struggling to land strikes to the head as Awn covers up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Awn controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Griffen has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Awn has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Awn just trying to survive but Griffen is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Griffen is trying to stick to Awn's back but Awn is turning into Griffen. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Griffen's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Awn.
Awn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Griffen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Awn looking to sit in guard and control but Griffen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Griffen wants to pass the guard but Awn is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Awn has Griffen pulled in close to control his posture.
Awn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Griffen!
Awn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Awn trying to control but Griffen is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Despite being in the dominant position, Tai Won Awn just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Griffen closes the distance but Awn moves to the side

and Awn counters with a takedown into side control.

Awn stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Awn looks gassed!
Griffen checks the leg kick.

Griffen forces Awn back against the cage and clinches.
Awn with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Awn is looking to control Griffen's arms but Griffen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Awn has his back to the cage.
Awn missing with knees to the body.

Griffen turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tai Won Awn dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Awn looks to clinch
and Griffen counters with a body kick that stops Awn in his tracks momentarily.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Griffen - that will leave a mark!
Forrest Griffen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffen misses with a takedown attempt

and Awn counters with a single leg into guard. Griffen didn't expect that.

Awn is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Griffen's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Awn is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Awn is keeping busy.
Awn can't escape the position.
Awn trying to control the hands but Griffen won't let him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Awn turns into Griffen and is now in his guard.

Griffen has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Awn off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Griffen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Awn looking to slow down the pace here.

Griffen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Griffen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Awn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Griffen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Awn trying to control but Griffen is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Griffen is trying to control the position but Awn postures up.
Awn throws and elbow that misses. Griffen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Awn's guard. Nice move by Griffen!
Awn looking to control.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Awn holds on and takes a little breather.
Awn controls Griffen momentarily but Griffen frees himself.

Awn throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Griffen escapes and throws Awn's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Griffen has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Awn keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Forrest Griffen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Griffen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Griffen wants to pass the guard but Awn is defending well.
Awn misses with some strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Forrest Griffen dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Awn swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Griffen slips under a jab from Awn.
Awn fails in his attempt to clinch.
Griffen shoots in and drives through. Awn sprawls well.
Griffen tries to clinch up

and Awn counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Awn.
Awn avoiding damage as Griffen throws knees to the body.

Awn works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Awn won't allow Griffen to get back to his feet.

Griffen has his foot on Awn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Awn works his way back into a safe position though.
Griffen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Awn's guard.

Awn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Griffen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griffen trying to control the position from guard on top but Awn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Awn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Griffen is one step ahead there.
Griffen slips nicely into half guard.
Griffen wants to control but Awn is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Awn is trying to get back to full guard.
Griffen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Griffen prevents Awn from improving his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Griffen is looking to clinch but Awn is avoiding it.
Awn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Awn tries to close the distance and clinch but Griffen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Griffen fails in his attempt to clinch.
Griffen shoots and misses

and Awn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Griffen's guard now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Awn cracks Griffen with a solid left hand.
Griffen keeping moving, preventing Awn from controlling successfully.
Griffen wants to get back to his feet but Awn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Griffen looking for a sweep. Not yet Griffen, not yet.
Awn postures up.
Griffen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Awn is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Awn with a flurry of punches that miss.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Awn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Griffen circles away.
Jab from Griffen.

Awn has taken the fight to the clinch.
Awn lands a damaging elbow.
Griffen is working for takedown but Awn is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Forrest Griffen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Griffen jumps guard and drags Awn to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Awn controls from within his opponent's guard.
Awn looking to pass the guard.
Griffen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Awn is one step ahead there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tai Won Awn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Awn has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
