PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Terrell Brewer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rgod Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brewer kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Till I Collapse. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terrell Brewer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rgod Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Brewer or perhaps it was just good defense by Gracie which made him look bad.

Gracie decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Gracie trying to control the action but Brewer is working from the bottom.
Gracie throwing shots but Brewer is blocking nicely.
Gracie seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brewer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gracie.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Brewer is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brewer tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brewer trying to control but Gracie postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Brewer throws a body kick that misses.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Brewer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brewer keeps working.
Brewer tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Brewer knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Brewer is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gracie's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Brewer is trying to stand back up but Gracie is controlling him

Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Gracie misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gracie blocks Brewer's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Brewer is on top in guard.

Gracie has his foot on Brewer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brewer works his way back into a safe position though.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Brewer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Brewer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Brewer stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rgod Gracie dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Brewer doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gracie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Brewer's guard now.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Brewer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brewer wants to stand up but Gracie is controlling him.
Brewer keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.
Brewer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brewer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.
Gracie is breathing heavily.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Brewer passes into half guard.

Brewer wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brewer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gracie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brewer works his way into full mount!

Brewer is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gracie has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gracie has given up his back here.
Gracie tries to roll but Brewer sticks to his back.
Brewer not allowing Gracie to control his hands.

Brewer is persistently looking for the submission but Gracie is defending it well.

Brewer is trying to stick to Gracie's back but Gracie is turning into Brewer. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Brewer's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gracie.

Gracie connects with a couple of short punches.

Brewer is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Gracie thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Brewer is keeping the position.

Gracie avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Brewer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gracie prevents Brewer from getting back to his feet.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Brewer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Brewer manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Brewer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Terrell Brewer will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Brewer throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.

Gracie avoids the head kick by Brewer.

Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brewer to the mat! Brewer manages to get full guard.

Rgod Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Brewer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gracie sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Brewer's guard.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brewer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Brewer defends it well.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brewer is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Gracie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brewer has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Brewer.
Gracie is trying to control Brewer's posture but Brewer avoids it.

Brewer looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gracie is trying to get back to half guard.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Brewer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gracie manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie is tying to control. Brewer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Brewer pushes Gracie off looking to stand but Gracie dives back in and keeps control.

Brewer is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Gracie pulls his head out easily.

Gracie has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Brewer defend it? Gracie steps over the head and cranks it - Brewer is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gracie!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rgod Gracie!
