Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Castilano (ranked 2420 p4p, 275 weight class) and Derrick Ranger (ranked 3447 p4p, 334 weight class). Castilano comes to the cage accompanied by Psycho Pass - Xavier Wulf. Derrick Ranger has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paul Castilano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Ranger!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Skip Squint and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Castilano misses with a hook. Ranger ducked under it nicely.
Ranger is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Castilano with a body shot.
Castilano jabs Ranger right on the nose. Ranger blinks but takes it well.


It looks like Derrick Ranger has been cut.
Castilano definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Castilano cracks Ranger with a good jab.
Castilano lands a nice hook to Ranger's body. Ranger takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Castilano loads up on a big right hand but Ranger slips the punch.
Ranger drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Castilano defends it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Castilano throws a hook but Ranger blocks it.
Ranger walks into a jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Castilano throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Ranger has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Castilano misses with an uppercut

and Ranger counters with a single leg into guard. Castilano didn't expect that.

Castilano has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ranger has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Ranger fails to pull guard.
Castilano lands a left hand.


That has opened up Derrick Ranger's cut even more.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Castilano creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Castilano lands an elbow inside.
Castilano scores with an uppercut up the middle.


The cut above Derrick Ranger's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Castilano manages to break the clinch.
Castilano looks to land a right hand but Ranger moved out of range.
Ranger feints the counter takedown.

Castilano misses with a wild body shot.
Castilano connects with a right hand. Ranger shakes it off.

and Ranger counters with a shoot takedown. Castilano fights it but they end up in guard.
Ranger content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ranger drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ranger jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ranger in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ranger throwing strikes from guard but Castilano blocks nicely.
Ranger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ranger pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Castilano is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ranger is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Castilano is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Castilano has escaped and now he's on top!

Ranger pulls Castilano in close to his closed guard and prevents Castilano from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ranger looking for a sweep. Not yet Ranger, not yet.
Ranger controlling Castilano's posture.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ranger looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Castilano dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Derrick Ranger's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Castilano misses with a body shot.
Ranger avoids the body shot from Castilano.
Ranger is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Castilano just misses with a punch to the body.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Castilano ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ranger moves away.

Despite the aggression on Ranger's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Castilano tries a head kick but it misses.
Ranger feints the counter takedown.
Ranger keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ranger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Castilano misses with a looping right.
Castilano scores with a jab to the body.
Castilano bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ranger's head.

Castilano connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ranger momentarily.
Castilano misses with a straight right.
Ranger tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ranger steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Castilano.
Ranger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Derrick Ranger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Castilano cracks Ranger with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Ranger looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Castilano finish him?


Derrick Ranger's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Derrick Ranger's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Paul Castilano!
Paul Castilano seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
