Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Santo Daniel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Smith !
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniel throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith 's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Daniel off to one side.
Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Smith throws a chopping leg kick but Daniel manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Daniel pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith has Daniel pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daniel manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Daniel pulls guard.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Daniel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Daniel swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Daniel is proving hard to escape from.

Daniel is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Daniel pulls Smith in close to prevent any damage.

Daniel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Daniel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.

Daniel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith 's guard.

Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
Daniel working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Smith 's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Daniel tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Smith wants to sweep here but Daniel controlling him for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Smith scores with a three punch combo!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smith leaves Daniel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Daniel swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Smith manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Daniel on his heels. He'll look to pass Daniel's guard now, I'm sure.

Daniel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Smith is trying desperately to improve position.
The referee warns Smith that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Daniel pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Daniel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?
Daniel has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Smith 's face.

Oooh a big shot gets through from Daniel. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Daniel throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Smith !

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Daniel moves away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Daniel. That's going to slow Smith down.

Daniel clinches.
Daniel jumps guard but Smith turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Smith tries to pull guard but Daniel holds him up against the cage and eventually Smith drops back down to his feet.
Smith 's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Daniel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Smith .

Daniel drags the fight down to the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daniel is on top in guard.

Daniel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Daniel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Daniel stops Smith from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Daniel shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Daniel in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
You can see the frustration on Smith 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Daniel tries for a kimura but Smith is defending well.
Johnny Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Santo Daniel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
