Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nicholas Sandoval (ranked 6026 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Pickens (ranked 5053 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nicholas Sandoval!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Pickens!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pickens instigates a clinch.

Sandoval manages to break the clinch.
Pickens shoots in for a takedown but Sandoval shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Sandoval could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Pickens closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pickens lands in his opponent's guard.

Pickens lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sandoval down.

Sandoval is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Pickens to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Pickens doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Pickens dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sandoval is looking to counter punch.
Pickens looks for a takedown but Sandoval sprawls well.
Nice takedown defense from Sandoval. No joy for Pickens on that attempt.

Sandoval keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Pickens's head.

Sandoval wants to stand but Pickens has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Pickens had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sandoval defends it easily.
