PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Jacobs (ranked 6001 p4p, 228 weight class) and Collin Whitley (ranked 4409 p4p, 101 weight class). Jacobs's entrance music is up to my neck. A fine choice. Whitley has chosen i stand alone as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Jacobs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Collin Whitley!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Winston Alpacca and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitley motions for Jacobs to come forward. Whitley throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Jacobs blocks a low kick nicely.
Collin Whitley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jacobs lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Whitley circles away quickly and effectively.
Jacobs takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Whitley has Jacobs up against the cage in a clinch.
Whitley pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Jacobs goes for a takedown in the clinch but Whitley prevents it.
Jacobs definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jacobs has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Whitley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Whitley tries for a takedown but Jacobs manages to get underhooks.
Jacobs tries to land knees in the clinch but Whitley avoids the damage to the body.

Whitley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jacobs blocks a head kick by Whitley.

Whitley tries to land a leg kick but Jacobs saw it coming and moves away.
Whitley looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Whitley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jacobs tries to avoid it but Whitley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jacobs to the ground. Jacobs escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jacobs closes the distance and clinches.
Jacobs jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Whitley walks away with a smile on his face. Jacobs gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Jacobs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jacobs will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Whitley throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jacobs counters by moving into the clinch.
Whitley has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jacobs avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Jacobs's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Whitley clinches.
Jacobs is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Whitley pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Whitley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Whitley shoots in for a takedown but Jacobs shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Whitley is wriggling around but Jacobs manages to pass to half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jacobs thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Whitley is staying active underneath Jacobs, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jacobs passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Whitley!

Jacobs trying to control but Whitley is having none of it.

Jacobs throws some wild stikes that Whitley manages to avoid easily.
Whitley sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitley pushes Jacobs off looking to stand but Jacobs dives back in and keeps control.
Jacobs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Whitley's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jacobs tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Jacobs is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Jacobs tries to pass to full mount but Whitley defends it.
Jacobs is keen to just control but Whitley is a slippery customer.
Jacobs thows a huge punch but Whitley dodges it nicely.
Jacobs wants to control but Whitley is keeping him busy.
Jacobs tries to stand and escape but Whitley is controlling the position.
Jacobs thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Whitley's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Jacobs drives through and clinches with Whitley against the cage.
Whitley lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Whitley lands with a right to the head.
Jacobs has Whitley pressed against the cage, preventing Whitley from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Whitley is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Jacobs tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Jacobs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Whitley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jacobs had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Whitley defends it easily.

Whitley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jacobs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Whitley postures up in Jacobs's guard and throws a big left but Jacobs blocks it.

Jacobs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Whitley defends well.

Whitley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jacobs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Whitley has managed to get both his arms back between Jacobs's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Whitley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Jacobs is looking for a triangle but Whitley pushes his legs off easily.

Jacobs has his foot on Whitley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Whitley works his way back into a safe position though.

Jacobs has his feet on Whitley's thighs here. He's pushed Whitley off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Whitley screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Collin Whitley spoke after the fight, saying 'sorry everyone'.
