PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Carr (ranked 5232 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Luncheon (ranked 5191 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Calvin Carr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph Luncheon!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carr has his takedown stuffed

and Luncheon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Luncheon stands and steps away. Carr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Carr throws a head kick that misses

and Luncheon counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Luncheon has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Carr after a bit of a struggle.
A frustrated look appears on Carr's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Luncheon controlling the action here for a moment.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Luncheon has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Carr clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Carr manages to stand up with Luncheon still on his back. Eventually Luncheon drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Luncheon feints and as Carr raises his hands in defense, Luncheon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Carr manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Carr is trying to push Luncheon away but Luncheon has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Luncheon keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Carr's efforts to push away.
Carr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Luncheon gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Carr.
Luncheon is trying to pull guard but Carr turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Luncheon tries to pull guard but Carr holds him up against the cage and eventually Luncheon drops back down to his feet.
Calvin Carr has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ralph Luncheon.
Carr trying to control the position but instead, Luncheon has worked for underhooks and has pushed Carr into the cage.

Luncheon breaks the clinch.

Carr closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Luncheon defending against the ground and pound.
Carr cracks Luncheon with a big elbow.
Carr wants to stand but Luncheon is controlling his arm.
Carr controls the position.
Carr will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Luncheon is trying to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Luncheon can do anything to dispel that myth.

Carr has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Luncheon.
Luncheon controlling from side mount.
Carr wants to control but Luncheon postures up.
Luncheon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Calvin Carr will probably get the nod.

Carr shoots and misses

and Luncheon moves into the clinch.
Carr is trying to break free.
Luncheon is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The referee calls for Luncheon to work.
Luncheon receives a warning from the referee for stalling.

Carr breaks from the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Luncheon swings for the body but Carr moves out of range.
It looked like Carr wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Carr slips a jab and a cross from Luncheon.

Luncheon scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Carr is refusing to be controlled, as Luncheon sits in half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Luncheon not doing much here.
Carr tries to roll over but Luncheon keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carr pushes Luncheon off looking to stand but Luncheon dives back in and keeps control.
Luncheon missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Carr wants to control but Luncheon is keeping busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Luncheon shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carr napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Luncheon is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Luncheon winds up and cracks Carr with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Luncheon slows the pace down in half guard.
Luncheon wants to take a breather but Carr is having none of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carr is trying to stand back up but Luncheon is controlling him
Carr is not content to let Luncheon control the position.
Luncheon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Luncheon manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Carr on his heels. He'll look to pass Carr's guard now, I'm sure.
Luncheon chips away with some ground and pound.
Luncheon trying to control but Carr is working from the bottom.
Luncheon is breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Luncheon postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ralph Luncheon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Luncheon forces Carr back against the cage and clinches.
Carr has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Luncheon avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Luncheon stalls.
Carr fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Luncheon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Carr is defending well.

Luncheon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Luncheon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Luncheon takes a little break here. Carr wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Carr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Luncheon is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Carr's shoulder. That is not cool.

Carr throws Luncheon to one side and escapes!
Carr shoots for a takedown but Luncheon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Carr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Luncheon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Carr is trying to defend but Luncheon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Luncheon is pressing down on Carr's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carr is holding on for now.

Luncheon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Luncheon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carr is just riding it out for now. Luncheon eventually gives up the hold.
Luncheon tries to stand and escape but Carr is controlling the position.
Luncheon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Luncheon is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Luncheon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Carr tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Luncheon manages to move to mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carr's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ralph Luncheon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Luncheon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
