Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Freddie Zamora!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zamora fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Johnson.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Zamora shows good takedown defense.
Zamora dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Johnson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Johnson rushes Zamora and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Johnson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Zamora pulls guard effortlessly.
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Johnson slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Zamora is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Official UFC Performance Institute Training Center that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Zamora looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Zamora escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zamora. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zamora manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Zamora is pushing down on Johnson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Johnson is fighting to maintain full guard but Zamora has managed to sneak the leg through.
Johnson is looking to control Zamora's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?

Zamora is pressing down on Johnson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Johnson is holding on for now.
Johnson has hold of Zamora's hands but Zamora slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Zamora throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Zamora lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Johnson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.
Zamora missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Zamora wants to take a breather but Johnson is having none of it.
Zamora thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.
Zamora throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson wants to improve his position but Zamora is controlling well.
Zamora moves nicely into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Zamora has hold of Johnson's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Johnson tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Zamora cranks the arm and Johnson screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Johnson, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Freddie Zamora!
After winning the bout, Freddie Zamora thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
