PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sake Chu (ranked 2809 p4p, 328 weight class) and Gordon Harper (ranked 6909 p4p, 543 weight class). Chu comes to the cage accompanied by Daughtry - Renegade. Gordon Harper is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sake Chu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gordon Harper!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chu scores with the left hand. Harper knows he should have avoided that one.

Chu clinches with his opponent.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Chu.
Harper tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A nice left hand lands by Chu.
Chu swings wildly with an uppercut but Harper uses good head movement to avoid it.
Chu tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Harper's elbow.
Harper lands a hook to the side of the head.
Chu lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Chu tries to throw a body punch but Harper avoids it by throwing Chu back against the cage.
Chu blocks a body shot from Harper.
Chu jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Harper walks away with a smile on his face. Chu gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Harper instigates a clinch.
Chu lands a body shot.
Chu tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Harper lands a body shot in the clinch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chu digs a right hand into Harper's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Harper's gas tank.
Chu makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Chu pulls Harper into guard.
Chu is adopting a defensive guard.
Chu looking for a sweep. Not yet Chu, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chu trying to control the pace.
Chu continues to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harper trying to control but Chu postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chu is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Harper can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Harper ducks straight into an uppercut from Chu and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Harper manages to regain guard straight away.
Chu pushing down on Harper's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chu controlling the pace.
Chu works his way into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chu throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Harper seems a little lost for a moment, as Chu dominates the positioning.
Chu working the ground and pound but Harper is defending the strikes.
An elbow from Chu crashes against the mat.
Chu has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Chu controlling the position easily from mount.
Harper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Chu throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Harper because Chu loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sake Chu dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Chu connects with a body shot that sends Harper's belly button to the back.
A big right from Chu misses.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Harper ducks under a wild hook from Chu.
The fighters circling - Harper throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Chu closes the distance and pushes Harper back into the cage.
Chu lands a shoulder strike.
A head punch on the inside from Harper fails to land.
Chu looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Harper misses with some punches.
Chu tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A short body shot lands from Harper as the two fighters clinch.
Chu is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Harper can do to turn this around?

Chu scores with a shoulder strike.
Chu lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Chu throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Chu drags the fight down to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chu seems keen to control Harper's posture.
Harper is breathing heavily.
Chu lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Chu controls from within his opponent's guard.
Chu has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Chu forces his way into half guard.
Chu stalling.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chu's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
More hug and hope from Chu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chu throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Harper sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Chu lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Harper is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Chu moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sake Chu!
After the fight, Sake Chu was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
