Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pat Verbeek (ranked 6 p4p, 1 weight class) and Hans Hermann Hoppe (ranked 201 p4p, 25 weight class). Hoppe has chosen Wind of Change as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hans Hermann Hoppe!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoppe jabs at Verbeek's body.
Verbeek scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Hoppe looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Hoppe slips under a jab.
Hoppe tries to land a front kick but Verbeek steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hoppe slips a straight right by Verbeek.
Verbeek scoring well with a low kick there.
We've been told by Verbeek's head coaches at Guerrilla MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Verbeek misses with a body shot.
Hoppe looks for a takedown but Verbeek sprawls well.
Verbeek throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hoppe sees it coming and avoids it easily.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hoppe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hoppe is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Verbeek lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Hoppe has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Verbeek is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hoppe.

That was a close round but I would say that Pat Verbeek will probably get the nod.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hoppe is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Verbeek rather than just go for the knockout.

Hoppe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hoppe drops back looking for a leg! Verbeek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Verbeek manages to kick Hoppe off! Hoppe jumps back into Verbeek's guard.

Hoppe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Verbeek tries to avoid it but Hoppe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Verbeek to the ground. Verbeek escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pat Verbeek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hans Hermann Hoppe.

That was a close round but Pat Verbeek did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Verbeek throws a push kick but Hoppe slaps the foot to one side.

A little feinted left hand from Verbeek on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Verbeek feints and then cracks Hoppe's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hoppe down.

Verbeek tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hoppe was well out of range. Poor timing from Verbeek.
Verbeek lands with a hook. Hoppe tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Hoppe darts in looking for a takedown but Verbeek gets double underhooks and turns Hoppe into the cage.
Verbeek dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Verbeek lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hoppe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Verbeek sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hoppe somewhat.

Hoppe has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Verbeek can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hoppe changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Verbeek tries to avoid it but Hoppe manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Verbeek to the ground. Verbeek escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hoppe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hoppe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The ground and pound from Hoppe seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Hoppe tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hoppe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Verbeek tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hoppe wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Hoppe sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hoppe with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Verbeek holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hoppe tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Hans Hermann Hoppe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Verbeek has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
