The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Aoki shoots in for a double leg but Kontiovaara sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Aoki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Aoki jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kontiovaara manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Aoki is looking to advance position but Kontiovaara won't allow it.

Aoki has his foot on Kontiovaara's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kontiovaara works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Kontiovaara counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Aoki's guard now.

Kontiovaara drops back looking for a leg! Aoki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Aoki manages to kick Kontiovaara off! Kontiovaara jumps back into Aoki's guard.
Aoki is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Kontiovaara is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Aoki pulls his head out easily.
Aoki wants to take a breather but Kontiovaara is having none of it.

Kontiovaara sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
