PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Campbell (ranked 23949 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Crute (ranked 4603 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob Crute told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Campbell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bob Crute!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crute ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Campbell moves away.
Campbell is looking to clinch but Crute is avoiding it.

and Crute counters with a left to the body.

Crute moves into the clinch.
Crute lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Campbell or not.

Crute breaks from the clinch.
Crute throws a body punch but Campbell moves out of range.
Crute just misses with a punch to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Campbell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crute throws out a loose jab but Campbell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Crute lands a nice shot to the body.
Crute takes a swing at Campbell's ribcage but misses.

Crute throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Crute has Campbell up against the cage in a clinch.

and Crute counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Campbell blocking the ground and pound attempt from Crute.
Campbell regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Crute.
Crute throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Crute must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Campbell looking for a sweep. Not yet Campbell, not yet.

Crute wants to pass the guard but Campbell is keeping the position.
Crute slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Crute looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Crute working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Crute controls from within his opponent's guard.
Campbell will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Crute tries to free his leg and advance position but Campbell is retaining full guard.

Campbell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Crute working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Let's hope that Crute has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Crute with a flurry of punches that miss.
Crute postures up in Campbell's guard and throws a big left but Campbell blocks it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Crute sitting in guard here, content to control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Campbell is trying to keep Crute in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bob Crute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crute shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Campbell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Crute postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Crute throws a strike but Campbell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Campbell is breathing heavily.

Crute isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Campbell stacks Crute on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Campbell!
Crute is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Crute dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Crute lands a nice shot to the body.
Crute connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Crute throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Campbell attempts a counter takedown but Crute avoids it well and moves away.
Campbell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Campbell tries to counter by clinching up but Crute breaks away and moves out of range.
Crute throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Campbell tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Crute manages to circle out of the way.

Campbell closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Crute. Campbell does a little dance to reset his feet.
Crute throws a body punch but Campbell moves out of range.
Campbell seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Crute closes the distance and clinches.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Crute wants the takedown. Campbell is fighting it off but Crute persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Campbell's guard against the cage.
Campbell wants to get back to his feet but Crute passes into half guard.

Crute seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Bob Crute has got the better of the ground game so far.
Crute tries to pass to full mount but Campbell defends it.
Crute not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Campbell preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Crute working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Crute in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Campbell tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Crute!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bob Crute!
